Sisters, Deacons, and Priests of the Archdiocese of Louisville were honored with a Reception & Dinner this past Sunday, 25 January 2015 at St. Martha's Parish Bethany Center hosted by the local Knights of Columbus Councils including our very own Bishop Flaget #13053.
The Most Reverend Joseph E. Kurtz, D.D. presided, with some 300 in attendance, at this wonderful annual event; now in its 12th year.
Kentucky State Deputy Frank Shay joined with #13053 Brother Knights Mike Welch, Bob Rucinski, Charlie Rhodes, & Mike Lally along with the sustained efforts of our neighboring KofC Councils to successfully produce this year's gala.
Please mark your Calendars to join us in January 2016 to again honor the dedication and service of our Clergy.
SK Edward Miller
SK Brother Ed Miller led the 2014 Bishop Flaget Council Christmas cards and ornaments Seminarian Fundraising Project after Masses these past few weeks at each Parish we support. Ed managed this entire effort ensuring that all orders were filled within a few days with zero (0) Inventory remaining when the projet wrapped up.
Last year, financial help from 3,224 KofC Councils, Assemblies and Circles to future Priests, Sisters, and Brothers exceeded $3.7 Million. Since 1981 the Knights of Columbus has provided more than $60 Million in aid, helping more than 91,600 men and women follow their Vocations.

Brother Terry Luckett is an active member of Ascension Parish and our KofC Council. Terry has organized and lead Knights of Columbus Brothers and family assisting the Athletes at the Special Olympics softball throw held at St Xavier High School’s Track Facility in Louisville, Kentucky for quite a few years. Terry did an outstanding job again this year.
This year there were 27 K of C Members and or family members present at the Special Olympics event. The start was delayed a little because of weather and set-up time was cut short but, as always, the Knights came through with flying colors. Once again we all left feeling Truly Blessed!
It takes a large number of workers to make this event a success. If you talk to anyone who has worked this event in the past, you will hear them say they get much more out of the event than they give. I can tell you that you will walk away smiling, feeling great and counting your blessings for being allowed to work with some of God's Special People.
Danny McMillan
Brother Danny McMillan is an active member of St Bernadette Parish and our KofC Council. Dan is involved in many charitable activities most notably Special Olympics and the Tootsie Roll Drive. Dan is a long-serving CSAA 5th/6th Grade Youth Football Coach at St Mary's Academy and earlier at StMM.

Chancellor David and Patti Such
Chancellor David and Patti were a driving force leading the highly successful 2014 Louisville Archdiocese Catholic Men's Conference with more then 800 attending, many were Knights of Columbus.
The sessions were very good and the Mass was powerful indeed, and made even more so with the attendance of the 4th degree in full regalia.
Archbishop Kurtz gave a brief address prior to the keynote speaker and one of his points was that “error increases with distance”. His funny story of how his bowling score increased in relation to how close he was to the pins was very funny In fact, his score exceeded 200, when he was
10’ away! Of course, what his message was that we need to keep close to Jesus and as we distance ourselves, so increases the chances that we make mistakes.

Worthy brothers, Today, I spent time loading vehicles with diapers for the diaper bank. Lady Mary Beth Banbury, my precious wife, arranged a diaper drive at the school she teaches at. The parents, teachers and students came up with just under 12,000 diapers! Two Knights loaded the vehicles and off they went , ready to support life! I would like to pass this story on to the local Councils. It is so easy and it does immeasurable good. I would be willing to visit local Council meetings to let them know how to do it. Seriously, all they need is a contact at a school or work place to get approval. I know I am beating the drum hard for this, but this effort is a perfect opportunity for KOC and it is so easy to do. I look forward to your response.
