Declamation

“An exercise in oratory or elocution,

as in the recitation of a classic speech”

Imagine being present at a performance of Shakespeare’s Henry V when in Act IV, you witness the St. Crispin’s Day speech.

Or, imagine that you were present for JFK’s, “… ask not what your country can do for you…” admonition.

Now imagine that as part of their extra-curriculum, our Catholic schools coach students to deliver words like these, competing and judged on their ability to inspire.

Some 50 years ago, Chas O’Conner and other Sir Knights took these imaginings and made them the reality we know as the Delaware Knights of Columbus Declamation Contest.

This year we continue the unbroken history of this contest on Sunday, December 10th, and to insure continued success, will need room moderators, time keepers, and judges. The duties for each of these assignments are simple and most can be learned during the prep time before the contest.

Please consider giving a few hours to help – You will leave with and appreciation of our catholic youth that surpasses any expectation.
