Dear Worthy Brother Knights,

I would like to invite you to join other Brother Knights on April 26, 2025, at St Helen’s Roman Catholic Church in Glendale in taking the Exemplification of the Patriotic Degree. Please talk to your Grand Knight of your council and at this month’s Council Meeting, talk to the Faithful Navigator or the Sir Knight who gives the Report of the Fourth Degree. Ask them what their assembly does in your parish and how you could become a part of it, too. These men embody the fact that one can be a faithful Catholic and be a faithful citizen.

The registration link and packet are available at:

Your family can witness your taking the Oath of the Order and being Knighted at the Exemplification Ceremony.  This Exemplification of the Patriotic Degree I Glendale will be the first time in Arizona that your family can come and watch and participate in this.   I spoke to wives and mothers at the Exemplification Dinner on March 1st in Los Angeles.  The feedback was that they were proud to watch their sons and husbands take the oath and be Knighted.  I invite you to bring your friends, too.  This is not just what you do, it’s who you are.  Now you can share this event with the most important people in your life.

There is more to being a Fourth Degree member than wearing a uniform and sword. These are men who have chosen to embrace the Order’s Fourth Principal of Patriotism. These men reach out to veterans, active military and first responders in assistance to their mission both in service and after. The Fourth Degree supports our priests, especially those who go on to serve as military chaplains. We sponsor a scholarship for seminarians preparing to become Catholic chaplains in the U.S. Armed Forces. There are many programs and charities,  both locally and nationally, that are supported by the Fourth Degree.

Your advancement to the Fourth Degree, the Patriotic Degree, is a momentous step in your journey as a Knight.

This degree is a testament to our commitment to Church and Country. It was added by our founding fathers 125 years ago to foster patriotism and honor among our ranks, displaying our trustworthiness and honor as citizens.

Your exemplification to Sir Knight starts the next leg of your journey as a “Catholic Gentleman.”  Hopefully, you will join many of the current Sir Knights and procure the Uniform of the Fourth Degree. I am sure you have seen many Sir Knights in uniform. This uniform is not just a piece of clothing, it is a symbol of our deep commitment to Church and Country. Will you join them in the Honor Guard at the many and various types of callouts?  Standing for a deceased Knight or family member, the Chalice Ceremony, Honor Guard at Mass for our Priests, and Bishops, marching in parades representing our Holy Mother Church and our Order. These are just a few ways our uniform helps us be visible as Catholic gentlemen, as the Fourth Degree of the Knights of Columbus. We are the group that had “Under God” added to the Pledge of Allegiance.

Remember that your council remains your primary focus. Keeping your membership current is vital for both the council and the assembly.

If you have any questions, please contact the Faithful Navigator of the assembly at your council or email me at sirknightmichaelpaz@gm.  I hope to be the one to “Knight” you on April 26th.

Faithfully yours,

Michael A. Paz, PFN
