Al Artz
Our Lady of the Rosary Council 9039 recognizes Brother Al Artz as Knight of the Month for September 2025. Brother Al Artz has always made himself available to assist in Council activities such as the Meals to Go program and the Lords Pantry Food Bank. Brother Al also supports council activities such as fundraising, Special Olympics and other charitable activities. Brother Al espouses the essence of being an active member of our Council.

Deacon John Baffa
Our Lady of the Rosary Council 9039 recognizes Brother John Baffa as Knight of the Month for August 2025. Deacon John has been a Knight for over 33 years and as a Deacon at Saint Brendan’s has always been a staunch supporter of our council demonstrating both friendship and spiritual strength to our members. Deacon John has always made himself available to the council presiding over our ceremonies and supporting our charitable endeavors and we deeply appreciate his commitment to our Parish and our Council.

Ralph Aurillia
Our Lady of the Rosary Council 9039 recognizes Brother Ralph Aurilia as Knight of the Month for June 2025. Brother Ralph for the last several years tirelessly managed the Knights Kitchen, providing the Meals to Go for our Fund Raisers, Council and Assembly dinners, food after exemplifications and other Knights functions. Ralph recently worked with Brother Pat Funigiello to supply food for the Church opening of Saint Ann’s Parish in Hampstead. Brother Ralph serves as an Usher at the 11am mass at St Brendan’s. Brother Ralph recently stepped up to serve in the position of Financial Secretary for our Council for the next three years.

Wayne Hickerson
Our Lady of the Rosary Council 9039 recognizes Brother Wayne
Hickerson as Knight of the Month for May 2025. Brother Wayne is an active member of the Council, focusing on displaying and working our Faith through evangelization. Brother Wayne worked with Brother Ed Beckley to start Bible Study groups on Sunday at St Brendan’s. Brother Wayne also worked on a unique initiative to go outside the church building into the community, reading and discussing bible passages, praying with people and evangelizing to spread the word of God to our local community.

Victor Coster
Our Lady of the Rosary Council 9039 recognizes Brother Victor Coster as Knight of the Month for April 2025. Brother Victor is an active member of the Council, and can be seen volunteering for many of our council programs since his joining. Victor often volunteers for LAMB collection at local supermarkets, working at the Meals to Go and other activities and fund-raisers. Brother Victor is also an Usher for St Brendan’s parish, working at the 5pm mass and supporting our parish community.

Mark Sierson
Our Lady of the Rosary Council 9039 recognizes Brother Mark Sierson as Knight of the Month for March 2025. Brother Mark stands out as an active volunteer for our Council. Mark took off from his home to volunteer with a local church to help rebuild North Carolina residents affected by the devastation of Hurricane Helene. Mark worked in Southern North Carolina twice to support the families in the Asheville area. Brother Mark also took the initiative to raise funds for the KofC Coats for Kids program with the residents of Brunswick Plantation. Mark consistently volunteers for most of our Council activities as well as Fourth Degree functions.

Preston Sharp
Our Lady of the Rosary Council 9039 recognizes Brother Preston W. Sharp as Knight of the Month for February 2025. Brother Preston can be found at most Council activities for the last several years, such as working on our Meals to Go, handing out tootsie rolls to raise funds for LAMB and First Friday Rosaries.

James Yeager
Our Lady of the Rosary Council 9039 recognizes Brother James R. Yeager as Knight of the Month for January 2025. Brother James volunteers for most of our Council activities. James can be found building ramps for the Helping Hands group, litter pickup on the Adopt-A-Highway team, prepping Meals to Go, working LAMB and Friday Rosaries.

Donald Whitfield
Our Lady of the Rosary Council 9039 recognizes Brother Donald Whitfield as Knight of the Month for November 2024. Brother Colonel Don has stepped up to volunteer for Council activities for years. Brother Don recently was a standout on our Annual Membership Drive, signing up eight prospects alone at one mass. Brother Don also volunteered to work as the Knights liaison to the Columbiettes. Brother Don can be found at many Council activities like monthly Rosary, Meals to Go, Veteran’s Dinner and other activities.

Ed Proctor
Our Lady of the Rosary Council 9039 recognizes Brother Edmund Proctor as Knight of the Month for October 2024. Brother Ed has led our Life Programs and activities as Program Director for the last several years. Ed can always be found promoting prolife programs for the Knights and our community, such as the March for Life, Life Chain and local pregnancy centers. Ed was fundamental in an extremely successful Baby Bottle Program to raise over $15000 for the St Brendan’s Human Life and Dignity Ministry. Brother Ed can be found volunteering for many of the other Council activities like monthly Rosary, Meals to Go, MNF book sales, LAMB collections. Ed is also a Eucharistic Minister for St Brendan’s Church.

Mark Sierson
Our Lady of the Rosary Council 9039 recognizes Brother Mark Sierson as Knight of the Month for September 2024. Brother Mark is active in many of the council activities. Mark volunteered with the Helping Hands group to build a handicap ramp to aid a local wheelchair bound women. Brother Mark is also a member of the Fourth Degree Honor Guard which represented the Knights at the three recent funerals last month. You can often find Mark volunteering many of the Council activities like Meals to Go, MNF book sales, LAMB collections, Brunswick Food Pantry and other Knight’s activities.

Lawrence Aquilino
Our Lady of the Rosary Council 9039 recognizes Brother Lawrence Aquilino as Knight of the Month for August 2024. Brother Larry has managed the Knights Monday Night Football fundraiser for the several years. You can find Brother Larry at almost every mass from June to September selling MNF books in-front of the church and his efforts has made the program a major success for our council. Brother Larry can also be found volunteering for many Knights activities such as Meals to go, LAMB collections and other Council activities.

Pete Ponga
Our Lady of the Rosary Council 9039 recognizes Brother Peter Ponga as Knight of the Month for July 2024. Brother Peter has recently joined our Council, and he has shown to be willing to step up and volunteer for our Council Activities. Brother Peter took on managing the Council’s Pelican Baseball game and picnic. Brother Peter also is working to make the Monday Night Football Fundraiser a success, you can find him at most masses selling MNF books and taking on the task of recording all MNF stubs in the Excel file. Brother Peter can be found volunteering for many Knights activities such as LAMB collections and other Council activities

Ralph Aurillia
Our Lady of the Rosary Council 9039 recognizes Brother Ralph Aurillia as Knight of the Month for June 2024. Brother Ralph has stepped up to lead the Council’s Kitchen Team going into the new Fraternal Year. Taking responsibility for the Kitchen, along with Ken Conn, Ralph has revitalized the program as a successful fund-raising activity. Brother Ralph can be found volunteering for many other Knights activities such as LAMB collections, Spiritual reflection, First Friday Rosary. Brother Ralph is also active in the Fourth Degree Assembly 3115, a member of the Honor Guard and Usher for St Brendan’s Church.

John Butler
Our Lady of the Rosary Council 9039 recognizes Brother John Butler as Knight of the Month for May 2024. Brother John has led the Council’s Blood Drive Program for the last two years. This May, the Blood Drive delivered 52 pints of necessary live giving blood and platelets to our community, which is a record for our blood drive. Brother John can also be found volunteering for many other Knights programs such as LAMB collections, Helping Hands, First Friday Rosary and Meals to Go. Brother John is also active in the Fourth Degree Assembly 3115.

Al Ciardi
Our Lady of the Rosary Council 9039 recognizes Brother Al Ciardi as Knight of the Month for April 2024. Brother Al has led the Faith Programs for our Council for many years and his insight into our Christian Faith and Evangelism has made an impact on the Catholic men within our Council. Al’s history as past Grand Knight provides support and wisdom on Faith issues to the Council leadership and Good of the Order. Brother Al is a dedicated usher for St Brendan’s at the 5PM mass. Al can be found at most Knight activities volunteering for such programs as LAMB collections, First Friday Rosary and Meals to Go.

Ken Waldron
Our Lady of the Rosary Council 9039 recognizes Brother Ken Waldron as Knight of the Month for March 2024. Brother Ken recently transferred into our Council and immediately made an impact on our Council. Brother Ken led the Adopt-A-Highway program, arranging with the NCDOT to assign a portion of Georgetown Road to Council 9039 for quarterly clean-ups. This program provided Knights of Columbus signage on Georgetown Road to publicize our good works, as well an article in the Brunswick Beacon and our church bulletin. Ken also can be found at most Knight activities such as LAMB collections, First Friday Rosary and Special Olympics.

Bill Hohenstein
Our Lady of the Rosary Council 9039 recognizes Brother Bill Hohenstein as Knight of the Month for February 2024. Brother Bill has long been the Membership Chairman of Council 9039 and led the Church Membership drive this past month. This key function helped our council meet the growth requirements to achieve Star Council Award. Besides handling recruitment, Brother Bill can be found at almost every Knights function, such as handing out Rosary cards at every first Friday Rosary, Meals to Go, selling 50/50 tickets at the Car Show and other events. Brother Bill also provides ongoing wisdom and support for our Grand Knight.

Bob Andrews
Our Lady of the Rosary Council 9039 recognizes Brother Robert Andrews as Knight of the Month for December 2023. Brother Bob has long been a volunteer at Our Lords Food Pantry, working on Wednesday’s packing and preparing the grocery bags to feed the needy families of our community. Bob also volunteers Saturday to help distribute the food. The Food Pantry supplies food for an average of 150 families each month. Besides working in the food pantry, you can find Bob volunteering at our Council Fund Raisers such as the Car Show, where Bob worked all day checking in the participants. Bert McGoff
Our Lady of the Rosary Council 9039 recognizes Brother Bert McGoff as Knight of the Month for November 2023. Brother Bert manages the Loaves and Fishes Ministry each week with Jane DeJoie for St Brendan’s Church. Bert volunteers at the Food Pantry, traveling to Wilmington each week to gather supplies, meat and groceries for the Food Pantry. He sometimes travels to Cherry Grove South Carolina to supplement the food needed for the program. The Food Pantry supplies food for an average of sixty (60) families each month. Besides leading Loaves and Fishes, Bert also volunteers with the Lecto Divino ministry to assist adults in joining the church.

John Leone
Our Lady of the Rosary Council 9039 recognizes Brother John Leone as Knight of the Month for October 2023. Brother John was one of the team leaders for the Council’s Second Annual Car show which was a major success due in part to John efforts, despite being canceled twice for inclement weather. Brother John volunteered many hours of his time, soliciting donations from business, both local and distant, arranging door prizes for the more than 150 Car show participants. As a result of John's efforts the car show was one of our major fund raisers this year. John can be also found volunteering at almost all of the Knight's functions and is an active member of our Council. Brother John actively demonstrates the principles of the Knights of Columbus: Charity, Unity and Fraternity.
Skip Dull
Our Lady of the Rosary Council 9039 recognizes Brother Duane "Skip" Dull as Knight of the Month for September 2023. Brother Skip has led the LAMB team for the last two years. He has worked diligently to organize LAMB fund raisers at local stores, coordinating volunteers, and insuring the fund raisers were successful. He led the LAMB team to meeting our fund-raising goals and was responsible for Council 9039 receiving recognition from NC State Council for exceeding our LAMB goal in 2022.
Brother Skip also worked on the committee for the Monday Night Football fund raiser, arranging for a new vendor for the MNF booklets and afterward inputted the data from 1500 tickets into the excel program, which is a time-consuming task. He can be found at almost all the Council functions, volunteering his time to support the needs of our Council, his fellow Brothers, community and church.

Larry Aquilino
It is with great pleasure that we recognize Sir Knight Larry Aquilino as Our Lady of the Rosary Council 9039 Knight of the Month for August 2023. Brother Larry took charge of one of our largest fund raisers of the year, Monday Night Football Books for our Council. Larry managed the distribution and sales of the MNF books, as well as collection of stubs and reconciling the funds each week. Larry effectively increased the sales of the books to 1500, almost 50% more than the previous year.
Brother Larry started the MNF sales at the golf outing and then was at church almost every week, selling the MNF books after the five o'clock evening mass on Saturday and then returning for sales the next morning for the eight, nine-thirty and eleven o'clock masses.
Larry is also one of our regular volunteers who is found at almost all of our fund raisers and activities throughout the year. Larry is a very good example of the Knights values of Charity, Fraternity and Unity. Join me in congratulating Larry Aquilino as our Knight of the Month for August 2023.
Joe Carpinello
It is with great pleasure that we recognize Sir Knight Joe Carpinello as Our Lady Of the Rosary Council 9039 Knight of the Month for July 2023.
Brother Joe is one of our regular volunteers who is found at almost all of our fund raisers and activities throughout the year. He is always willing to give his time and effort toward Council activities.
Joe is the Brother behind the scenes for our Monday Night Football Fundraiser, selling the MNF books after the five o'clock evening mass on Saturday and then returning for sales the next morning for the eight, nine-thirty and eleven o'clock masses. Week after week we saw Joe coming to church and volunteering for the MNF sales work.
Joe is also a Eucharistic minister, and is active in St Brendan's Parish’s activities. Joe is a very good example of the Knights values of Charity, Fraternity and Unity.

Kenneth Conn
Our Lady of the Rosary Council 9039 recognizes Brother SK Kenneth Conn as Knight of the Month for June 2023. Brother Kenn has been an active member of the Helping Hands team, always available in supporting the needs of his fellow Brothers, Church and community.
Kenny responded to Father Mark Betti's request to build an Altar, Podium and Baptismal Font for the St. Patrick Eucharistic Adoration Chapel in the McGivney Center. Kenn matched the current style and form of St. Brendan's main altar and Father Mark was pleased with his craftsmanship.
Kenny also worked on the electrical system of lights for the new flag poles in front of St Brendan's Church. Brother Kenny actively demonstrates the principles of the Knights of Columbus: Charity, Unity and Fraternity.
Bill Hohenstein
It is with great pleasure that we recognize SK Bill Hohenstein as Knight of the Month for May 2023.
As our Membership Director, Bill has been an effective part of our Council managing our Membership. In May, two more candidates were Exemplified into our Council, bringing our yearly total to 14 new members. This allowed the Council to meet its membership objective. This resulted in the Council receiving the McGivney Award for the second year in a row.
Bill also organizes Membership Church Drives to recruit new members, as well as recruiting during our many activities. He also orders our Council shirts for members and has secured a local vendor to do our Knights tee shirts and hats, saving members money.

Al Ciardi
It is with great pleasure that we recognize SK Al Ciardi PGK as Knight of the Month for April 2023.
With First Friday falling on Good Friday, Al worked closely with Father to get permission from the Diocese for us to hold our First Friday Rosary.
Under Al’s leadership, we held our First Friday Rosary on the Parish Hall prior to the Passion of Christ. We had our largest attendance ever, over 65 parishioners attended and participated.
This would not have been possible without Al’s determination to hold our First Friday Rosary.

Bill Bumbera Chris Burke
It is with great pleasure that we recognize Bill Bumbera and Chris Burke as Knights of the Month for March 2023.
Bill and Chris worked tirelessly on our First Annual St. Patrick’s Day Dinner.
Bill took care of tickets, both printing and selling them. He created a spreadsheet to track the multiples requests for tickets and reserved tables and he handled numerous phone calls.
Chris took care of the ordering of food and beverages, ensuring there was enough for 252 patrons, plus the kitchen and wait staff. He and the staff cooked for two days, while arranging the hall, kitchen and music set up.
The evening was a tremendous success with many compliments and people looking forward to the Second Annual Dinner.

John Butler and Brian Decker
It is with great pleasure that we recognize Brothers John Butler and Brian Decker as Knights of the
Month for February 2023.
John and Brian quickly responded to a blast requesting help to paint the new Council storeroom which previously belonged to Loaves and Fishes. They bought the supplies and the next day the room was completely painted. An excellent job was done.
You can also see John and Brian volunteering for kitchen duty and other needs of the Council. They are always willing to give of themselves at anytime.

Ed Proctor
It is with great pleasure that we recognize Brother Ed Proctor as Knight of the Month for January 2023.
As our Life Director, Ed has worked diligently on our Life Programs. He worked on the 9 Day Novena for Life and setup our Silent March for Life in January working with the Sacred Heart Council to borrow their signs for our March.
Ed also arranged with Dr. Bill Pincus, President of NC Right to Life, to come and speak at the Church on Abortion. A very powerful presentation.
Ed is active in Parish Ministries currently as a Eucharistic Minister.

Kevin Dempsey
It is with great pleasure that we recognize Sir Knight Kevin Dempsey Sr, as Knight of the Month for November 2022.
Kevin was a mainstay in the construction of the new Blessed Michael McGivney Parish Center which was dedicated in late October. Kevin also took the lead to refurbish and decorate our Council’s “Keep Christ in Christmas” float for this years Shallotte Christmas Parade.
Kevin continues to provide leadership and support for most all Council and Assembly activities. He recently stepped up to assume the role of Faithful Navigator for Assembly 3115.

Ed Beckley
It is with great pleasure that we recognize Sir Knight Ed Beckley as Knight of the Month for October 2022.
Ed organized the Council’s praying the Rosary in the new Chapel in the McGivney Center prior to its Dedication on October 22. Also, he was the photographer for the Dedication. Most importantly Ed wrote an article and included pictures for the Columbia Magazine.
Ed is also very active in the Parish’s and North Carolina Right to Life.

Earle Hoyt & John Leone
It is with great pleasure that we recognize Brothers Earle Hoyt and John Leone as Co-Knights of the Month for September 2022.
Earle and John co-coordinated our First Annual Car Show. Both worked tirelessly putting the show together and soliciting donations for the area to support the show. Goody Bags were also put together and distributed; raffle and prize tables were managed.
The Show was extremely successful and will go down as one of our biggest fundraisers. Both are already working on the Second Annual Car Show.

Don Whitfield II
It is with great pleasure that we recognize Inside Guard Retired Colonel Don Whitfield II as Knight of the Month for August 2022.
Don became a Knight at our Exemplification in July 2022. At the reception following the Exemplification, on his way out he volunteered for the open position of Inside Guard. In the month of August he brought two new members in via online sign-up. Don is going to be an outstanding Knight.
We welcome Don to our Council and Congratulate him as our Knight of the Month for August 2022.
Bob Curts
It is with great pleasure that we recognize FS Bob Curts as Knight of the Month for June 2022.
Bob is in his second term as our Financial Secretary. Bob first 3 year term end on June 30, 2022, but Bob graciously accepted a second 3 year term beginning on July 1, 2022. This shows Bob’s dedication to our Council and to the Knights.
Bob works tirelessly to keep our financials in order as well a maintaining our budget. He works closely with our Treasure to insure all donations and accounts are paid in a timely manner.
I personally am grateful for all Bob has done and I am sure to Council is as well.

Larry Bates
It is with great pleasure that we recognize Larry Bates as Knight of the Month for May 2022.
Larry has been our Treasurer for many years and has done a tremendous job managing our bank accounts, cutting checks, and reconciling our accounts and working very closely with our Financial Secretary. Larry was our Blood Drive Coordinator and now supports our drives as Assistant Coordinator.
Larry is retiring at the end of June and his support of our incoming Treasurer has been tremendous. We will miss Larry but know he will continue to support our Council.

Michael Macke
It is with great pleasure that we recognize Mike Macke as Knight of the Month for April 2022.
Mike has been a Knight in our Council since November 2019 and has been an asset to us since joining. He volunteered to help in the kitchen for Meals to Go last year and has been working each of our Fish Frys this year. He has assisted at LAMB collections and at our Christmas Dinner as well as our Communion Breakfast.

Mark Sierson
It is with great pleasure that we recognize Mark Sierson as Knight of the Month for March 2022.
Mark became a Knight on November 25, 2021 and has been an asset to our Council since joining. He has been working each of our Lenten Fish Fry’s and prior to joining Mark assisted at our Meals to Go. He immediately volunteered for LAMB collections and working at our Christmas Dinner as well as our Communion Breakfast.

Michael Kibler
It is with great pleasure that we recognize SK Mike Kibler as Knight of the Month for February 2022.
This award is long overdue. Mike has been a tremendous asset to our Council. He manages the storeroom for Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry, making runs to Boulineau’s at least twice a month to pick up food and keep the storeroom stocked.
Mike carries his tools in his truck and is always ready to help with any project such as, putting our Christmas Float together, driving the float in the Christmas Parade, placing Keep Christ in Christmas sign at the Golf Cart store. As the ramp for our late Brother Dave Gaven was being built, Mike was inside repairing and reinstalling the pantry doors in Dave’s house. If something needs to be done, Mike is the “go to guy”.

Dave Capitano
It is with great pleasure that we recognize Dave Capitano as Knight of the Month for January 2022.
Dave has worked diligently on our Monday Night Football Program over the past four football seasons. He has worked tracking sales and winning book numbers for the 1,000 books sold. He notifies the winners each Tuesday morning via email.
Dave is retiring from coordinating the sales and winnings after this season which ended last night. His time and contributions to our Council are greatly appreciated.

Ken Currie
It is with great pleasure that we recognize Ken Currie as Knight of the Month for December 2021.
Ken has been a 3rd Degree Knight since 1995. He is also an Honorary and has worked many programs over the years always lending his support on any activity.
Recently he has worked with Meals to Go, both in the kitchen and for food and distribution processes. He has also supported LAMB with the distribution of Tootsie Rolls. Also, he has supported Keep Christ in Christmas with the parades and float.
If there is something going on and support is needed, you will see Ken there.

Brother SK Ralph took his New Exemplification on September 12th and his 4th Degree on November 6th. Brother Ralph has dedicated himself to the Knights, supporting all activities he can. He works supporting the kitchen and cooking for all Meals to Go as well as supporting all our dinner functions.
Brother Ralph is also active in the Parish Ministries serving as an Usher at the 11:00 Mass.
In the short time since Ralph has become a Knight, he has not hesitated to get involved. He is an example for all new Knights to follow.
Steve Candela
In recognition of SK Steve Candela’s dedicated service to the Knights of Columbus Council #9039. Brother Steve is recognized as Knight of the Month for October 2021.
Brother SK Steve has been a Knight for over 25 years and during those 25 years had dedicated himself to the Knights, supporting all activities he can. He has stepped up as the Council’s Family Program Director. He works as assistant chef for the Council’s monthly “meals to go” fundraiser, as well as October’s Communion Breakfast. He is a regular participant in the Council’s 1st Friday and 5th Sunday Rosaries. He is also a regular in the 4th Degree’s Color/Honor Guard.
He recently participated in the Brunswick County Literacy Council spelling bee which provides needed donations for the organization’s projects. He recently volunteered to speak to the veterans at Coastal Pointe Assisted Living Facility in Shallotte celebrating Veteran’s Day.
Brother SK Steve exemplifies what it means to be a Knight through his words but especially through his actions. Congratulations Steve and Thank You!
Ken Conn
Our Lady of the Rosary Council #9039 recognizes Brother Ken Conn as Knight of the Month for September 2021. Since joining the Council in August 2019, Brother Ken has become an active member by volunteering in many Council events including Meals to Go, LAMB collections, and the blood drive to name a few. He stepped up this year to take on the Community Directors position for the Council. Recently, he volunteered to help a fellow Brother in need with electrical work in his house, installing an electrical panel, switches and outlets, and verifying that the wiring already installed was done correctly. He made sure that he made time to complete the project for his fellow Brother. Brother Ken has shown by his example what is meant to Leave No Brother Neighbor Behind. We thank Brother Ken for his support of a Brother Knight and his continuing support of our Council.
Harold Nelson
It is with great pleasure that we recognize Harold F. Nelson as Knight of the Month for August 2021.
Harold has taken Jackie Gromadski under his wing since the passing of Brother SK Ray Gromadski. He has helped her around her home doing odd jobs, but most recently coordinating a “She Shed” project to convert on of Jackie’s shed into work shed where she could do her crafts and sewing. The shed was insulated, dry walled and electricity brought in and a new door installed. It has become a great work location for Jackie.
Harold has also helped on our ramp projects and given unselfishly of his time to help out where ever he can. He also serves as our Recorder.

Mike Burke
Our Lady of the Rosary Council #9039 recognizes Sir Knight Mike Burke as Knight of the Month for July 2021. Brother Mike has stepped up to take the lead in preparation and serving of our monthly Meals To Go Council fund raiser for the past year. Mike worked with Brother Pat Funigiello to decide on the meal selection, prepare the meal and help serve the meal each month. He also lead in the prep of the Heavenly Bread that was made and sold along with the meals. This involved countless hours Fridays and Saturdays each month. Most recently Mike was very instrumental with the setup and prep of our first fish fry in a long time in July. He arranged to “borrow” Brother Pat’s deep fryer. But he had to install a gas outlet outside Brendan Hall to allow the fish fryer to work. After testing both the fryer and ovens to ensure a hot meal, he pitched in to cook, serve, and clean up resulting in a very successful meal. Without Mike’s dedication and commitment to our Council, we wouldn’t have been anywhere near as successful as we have. Congrats and Thank you Mike!

Our Lady of the Rosary Council 9039 recognizes Sir Knight Bill Bumbera and Brother Joe Kaczvinsky as co-Knights of the Month of June 2021. Both Knights persevered through the 2020-2021 pandemic to host a very successful annual golf tournament in late May, 2021. After two postponements and numerous meetings to discuss when and how to proceed, they kept their and their committee’s focus to settle on a date, contract with the golf course, solicit donations for hole sponsors and prizes. Through their leadership and perseverance, they were able to fill all available tee slots with golfers and procure ample sponsors and prizes. This resulted in a significant overachievement of our revenue goals which led to one of our best Net incomes for the golf tournament and added to our ability to make our donations to our local charities.

Paul Martin
Our Lady of the Rosary Council #9039 recognizes Brother Paul Martin as Knight of the Month for May 2021. Brother Paul has accepted the role of director of the Council's life programs starting with the new fiscal year July 1, 2021. Although before his official time to assume the role when we found out with very little lead time that the Silver Rose was coming to our State and District in mid-May, Paul's first move was to study the program on the Supreme web site. He then partnered with current director Ed Beckley to develop a plan and quickly implement it. Paul contacted several brothers to secure their support, and to educate them on the roles needed from them for the prayer service. He met with Deacon Bob, our GK and DGK to be sure they were comfortable with their involvement and helped direct the role-play for key participants the day before the event. Paul drove to pick up the rose from the Wilmington Council during the gas shortage and was instrumental in the prayer service, assisting Deacon Bob with the incense thurible, and as a member of the Rosary prayer team. He oversaw the cleanup at the close of the event. Although having only been a Knight for less than a year, Paul is already exhibiting the founding principles of Charity, Unity and Fraternity as a Knight of Columbus.

Our Lady of the Rosary Council #9039 recognizes Brother Skip Dull as Knight of the Month for April 2021. During the prolonged illness of our former LAMB Director, Brother Skip recognized the need to continue our mission of serving people with intellectual disabilities. He retrieved the program documents and supplies and organized them to immediately restart the program. He contacted the State Council LAMB Director to reconcile our balances and effected the distribution of checks to our local beneficiaries. He is working diligently to restart regular Tootsie Roll drives at local grocery and retail outlets. LAMB donations are now possible online and at our monthly Dinners-To-Go. Collections have exceeded this year’s goal. Brother Skip certainly demonstrates the principles of the Order: Charity, Unity and Fraternity.

Our Lady of the Rosary Council #9039 recognizes Brother Steve Miller as Knight of the Month for March 2021. Brother Steve has shown a deep interest in the welfare of our community. In February this year, he volunteered to help in the clean up in Ocean Ridge following the deadly tornado. A month later as a part of the Kiwanis Club’s food drive, he got the Council and the Parish involved creating a flyer and publishing the event in the parish Bulletin and in the Council Mariner. He was able to raise volunteers from the Council who helped in collecting 2,500 pounds of food for the Loaves and Fishes Food Panty. This community, parish and Council are grateful for his efforts. Although having only been a Knight for just over a year, Steve already is exhibiting the founding principals of Charity, Unity and Fraternity as a Knight of Columbus.

Month for January 2021. Brother Chris Has not been a Knight for even a year yet, but
he has wholeheartedly jumped in and become a very active member of this Council. He
has been instrumental in the success of the “Dinners-to-Go” project raising much needed funds to support our activities. He also is a new parishioner, but he has become an integral part of the parish Communications Committee and regularly livestreams the Saturday 5:00 Mass. Because of his can-do attitude and his ability to speak Spanish, Chris has been asked and has accepted a role to help establish a Hispanic Roundtable for the Council. In less than a year, Chris had made an impact on our Council with his attitude and willingness to help. Chris truly exemplifies the principles of this Order: Charity, Unity and Fraternity.

Our Lady of the Rosary Council #9039 recognizes Brother James Yeager as Knight of the Month for December 2020. Brother Jim has been a Knight for over 38 years, and he continues to put forth his best efforts in support of the projects of this Council. Most recently he was a key member of the project to build a ramp for one of our neighbors. Another example of his willingness to help was his participation in the project to remove the film from the windows in the church. For years he was a part of the team that assembled the Christmas parade float. Brother Jim is a Catholic gentleman who exemplifies the principles of the KofC: Charity, Unity, Fraternity.

Our Lady of the Rosary Council #9039 recognizes Brother Thomas Kuncewitch as Knight of the Month for November 2020. Brother Tom has been a Knight for just over two years, but he has unreservedly embraced Knighthood and this Council. After receiving his third degree he was elected the Council’s
Chancellor. He responds to new activities with enthusiasm. Tom has jumped in to run the meals-to-go, volunteered with helping-hands, and took over the reach out program. He is seen giving his support to many other activities. Brother Tom is truly an example to all of us in this Council. He actively demonstrates the principles of the Knights of Columbus: Charity, Unity, Fraternity.
Natalis (Nat) White
Our Lady of the Rosary Council #9039 recognizes Brother Natalis (Nat) White as Knight of the Month for October 2020. Brother Nat has a passion for the pro-life movement. He consulted with Ed Beckley, Diocesan Deacon Joshua Klickman, Mary Fitzgerald of the Columbiettes, Father Mark and the vendor contacts several times, to ensure elements of the Life program plans were on target for Respect Life month. He was instrumental in planning the first eleven days of October beginning with the Respect for Life Novena for the first nine days followed by a daily Rosary. He facilitated the EXPO for Life which was supported by ten Right to Life vendors. Brother Nat also arranged for Dr. William Pincus, head of NC Right for Life, to speak at our council’s October business meeting. A true tribute to his commitment to the Right to Life and this council, all of Brother Nat’s accomplishments were achieved despite having to also manage significant personal medical challenges. This Parish and Council are incredibly grateful to Brother Nat for all his efforts. He truly exemplifies the principals of a Knight of Columbus.
John McGinley
Our Lady of the Rosary Council #9039 recognizes Brother John McGinley as Knight of the Month for September 2020. Brother John has been a Knight for only a few months but has been serving St. Brendan Parish for some time. He is the lead in the installation and operation of the video operations which allow projection of the Mass into Brendan Hall for overflow crowds. Currently he is working to enable streaming of services for those unable to attend in-person. This Parish and Council are incredibly grateful to Brother Joe for all his efforts. He truly exemplifies the principals of a Knight of Columbus.

Brother Joe has been a Knight for only a few months, but he has been continually active in Saint Brendan Parish for many years. In addition to his other Parish activities Brother Joe served on the Building Committee and lead the installation of the audio systems in the Hall and the Sanctuary. His efforts greatly enhance the quality of the Masses for all parishioners. This Parish and Council are incredibly grateful to Brother Joe for all his efforts. In this time of pandemic Brother Harold exemplifies the meaning of the Knights’ program “Leave No Neighbor Behind”. He has given freely of his time and effort to assist Jackie Gromadski with several issues including, a recommendation that she replace her roof, minor repairs to her house, and advising her on other matters. Additionally, he keeps in regular contact with her ensuring her well being. He has long shown that he is more than willing to help both this Council and this parish. He serves as a parish usher, currently is our liaison to the Columbiettes and volunteers for many of our activities. Brother Harold truly demonstrates through his actions our principles of Charity, Unity and Fraternalism.

Our Lady of the Rosary Council #9039 recognizes Brother Michael Gomori as Knight of the Month for April 2020. Brother Mike is the editor of our weekly Mariner Notes and the webmaster for the Council website. His diligence in both areas contributes greatly to effective communications with all members. With the pandemic effort of Leave no Neighbor Behind, Mike created the process and responded to the original applicant providing her with needed groceries. Additionally, he recently helped distribute food at Camp United Methodist. In his short time with this Council, he is continually active and supportive of all Council activities. Brother Mike truly exemplifies the principles of this Order: charity, unity and fraternalism.
Jorge Reyes
When Father McGivney founded the Knights of Columbus, charity, unity and fraternity were the core principles starting with the very first members. Jorge wholeheartedly supported our Hispanic Benefits event on March 8th before, during and afterward. For several weekends he “talked up” the event with the men after 9:30 Masses. At the event he assisted with the prep and set up of the refreshments. And most importantly, he was able to discuss the benefits offered by the Knights and to persuade several men to investigate joining the Knights and purchasing insurance at the event, and the day after the event. His effort helping other Catholic men recognize we offer them the opportunity to be better Catholics and help their families demonstrates Jorge’s own commitment to Charity, Unity and Fraternal ism.

When Father McGivney founded the Knights of Columbus, charity, unity and fraternity were the core principles starting with the very first members. Recently Brother Jack Pegoni had surgery and Brother Paul Murnane generously made multiple trips to Leland and one to Myrtle Beach answering the needs of his Brother. Recognizing this and the many ways Brother Paul supports all his Brothers, Our Lady of the Rosary Council #9039 is pleased to name Brother Paul Murnane as the Knight of the Month for February 2020.

Our Lady for the Rosary Council #9039 recognizes SK Brother Richard Rismiller PGK as the Knight of the Month for January 2020. SK Rich has done tremendous work over the past months on developing and implementing a new website for the Council and Assembly, making it easier for the Brothers to get information on activities much quicker. Brother Rich has also take over and improved the Mariner again making easier for Brothers to navigate for information. Brother Rich steps up whenever needed to fill in for an officer at meetings for both the Council and Assembly. Brother Rich is also an Altar Server and Video/Sound Coordinator. Brother Rich Rismiller exemplifies what it means to be a Knight in this Order by his demonstrated spirit of charity, unity, fraternity and patriotism.

Larry Aquilino
Our Lady of the Rosary Council #9039 recognizes Brother Larry Aquilino as Knight of the Month for May 2019. Brother Larry has been a Knight for a short two years, but he immediately began participating in Council activities, and has not stopped since then. This past season, he became a major supporter of the Monday Night Football Program sales. He volunteers for Youth activities including acting as coordinator of our participation at the BCSO games this year. He is assuming the responsibility for supplying the parish children’s education program with refreshments. Larry has joined the group parking cars on Easter Sunday. On the weekend of May 4-5, he worked two shifts collecting for L.A.M.B. and then went directly to helping with parking for the parish Mexican Festival. And, there are many other reasons to recognize this Brother Knight who exemplifies the principles of this Order: Charity. Unity and Fraternity.
Fran Radley
Our Lady of the Rosary Council #9039 recognizes Brother Fran Radley as Knight of the Month for April 2019. After 56 years as a Knight, Brother Fran is very actively giving of himself to the Order and this Council in many ways. This is his 7th year as Community Activities Director and he enthusiastically continues to rally his Brothers to participate in various community-based functions. Thanks to his efforts and leadership, we participate in feeding the hungry, socializing with the sick and infirm older members of this area, conduct blood drives, and many more activities. Fran is a dedicated believer in Right-to-Life from birth to death by leading the rosary on 1st Fridays and 5th Sundays, plus annually attending the Rally and March in Raleigh. Brother Fran exemplifies the principles of this order: Charity; Unity; and Fraternalism.

Our Lady of the Rosary Council #9039 recognizes SK and Brother Thomas Gilmartin as the Knight of the Month for March 2019. We are indebted to Brother Tom for all his hard work over the last sixteen years as the coordinator of the North Carolina State Council Raffle. We appreciate his efforts which have produced significant and steady income for this Council. We will always remember how over the years Brother Tom has willing helped this Council with its many activities. For example, there was a time when he singlehandedly would slice every loaf of bread baked by the kitchen crew for dinners. Regardless of the activity we could always count on Brother Tom to give his wholehearted effort. Jude Herges
Our Lady of the Rosary Council #9039 recognizes Brother Jude Herges as the Knight of the Month for February 2019. In addition to being actively involved in the construction of homes through Habitat for Humanity, Brother Jude is regularly seen as an Usher at weekend services. He willingly shares his time and talent in the kitchen as the chief baker and dinner coordinator. During January of 2018 and this January, he was involved in baking bread to support the Our Lady of the Rosary Columbiettes’ “Bread and Soup” fund raiser following Masses on Saturday. He was one of the chief bakers supporting the St. Brendan Craft Fair raising funds for the Loaves and Fishes Pantry. Regardless of the activity, Brother Jude gives fully of himself and is a pleasure to work beside. He truly exemplifies the principles of the Knights: Charity, Fraternity, Unity and Patriotism.

Our Lady of the Rosary Council #9039 recognizes SK Brother Paul Murnane PGK as the Knight of the Month for January 2019. Brother Paul has been active with this Council before, during and following his tenure as Grand Knight. He supports any dinner by printing tickets and selling them after Masses and at the door. Recently he took over the LAMB Program and often fills vacant timeslots to ensure maximum collections. He supports Right to Life activities including the First Friday and 5th Sunday Rosary, and consistently participates in the annual Brunswick County Special Olympic Games. Joining with other Brothers he is a member of the crew delivering Meals on Wheels. Paul is an usher on Sundays at the 8:00 Mass. His enthusiasm and participation is exemplification of the principles of charity, unity, fraternalism and patriotism.
Earle Hoyt & Kathleen Vandenburg
Our Lady of the Rosary Council 9039 recognizes Brother Earle Hoyt and his wife Kathleen M. Brandenburg as the Family of the Month for November 2023. Brother Earle was the Chair for the Council’s Second Annual Car show, which was a major fund raiser this year. Despite working full time, he spent many hours managing the Car show, soliciting donations from business, coordinating the logistics necessary to make the show a major success. Kathleen also volunteered for the car show, working in the show’s Command Center. She is also active in St. Brendan's Parish community. She is an outspoken leader for Pro-Life, organizing a new Pregnancy Support Center in Shallotte. She serves in the Parish Ministry as a lecturer during Mass. Earle and Kathleen volunteer at many of the Council and Church functions during the year. Brother Earle and Kathleen both actively demonstrate the Family Principles of the Knights of Columbus: Charity, Unity and Fraternity.
Jack and Sally Dambaugh
It is with great pleasure that we recognize Jack and Sally Dambaugh as Family of the Month for November 2022.
Jack and Sally worked all day for the Veteran’s Day Dinner hosted by Assembly 3115 on November 12, 2022. They set up the tables and place settings, stepped in to help in the kitchen with meal preparation, and remained in the Hall until dinner. Then they helped serve dinner, Jack with the Knights and Sally with the Columbiettes, and they both stayed until cleanup was finished.
They both work a multitude of volunteer initiatives and are continually involved with the church and charities. They do not know how to say No when help is needed!

Ed and Bobbie Beckley
Our Lady of the Rosary Council #9039 recognizes SK Ed and Bobbie Beckley as the November 2019 Family of the Month. Ed and Bobbie are involved in many activities in this Council and this Parish. Both are Eucharistic Ministers and are conducting Bible studies. Bobbie is the Parish Librarian and was recently commended for all the effort she put forth to organize the Library. Bobbie and Ed are strong supporters of Council, Parish and Diocesan Respect for Life activities, amply demonstrating that commitment during October by organizing the many activities resulting in recognition by the Diocese of Raleigh and the Supreme Council. This couple gives full effort to everything they do.

Our Lady of the Rosary Council #9039 recognizes the Candela family as Family of the Month for April 2019. Sir Knight Dr. Stephen (Steve) and Davina Candela are long time members of St. Brendan parish and have provided invaluable support to the parish. Davina is an active member of the Columbiettes. Recently Dr. Candela has become very active in the Council, participating with Davina in the Rosary for Life on fifth Sundays; Council social and business meetings; L.A.M.B. collections; and providing his wisdom and counsel for various issues. This parish and Council are blessed to have families who so graciously give of their time and talent.

Brother Vincent Russo is a recent transfer to this Council, but he has jumped into being an active member. Michele is a member of the Our Lady of the Rosary Columbiettes. She also is a Lector at weekend services. Along with their son, Vinnie, they helped with the serving and clean up at the recent Valentine’s Day dinner. This Council is rightfully proud to welcome this family to our Council, community and St. Brendan the Navigator Parish.
Anstock Family
Our Lady of the Rosary Council #9039 recognizes SK William, (“Barnacle Bill”) and Nancy Anstock as the January 2019 Family of the Month. Nancy and Bill participate in various ministries of this parish including as Ministers of Communion; Nancy is a member of the Environmental Committee and the Funeral Fellowship Committee. Bill continues as the Council’s Advocate and as Council Activities Chairman. They both so graciously visit our Worthy Chaplin and Faithful Friar Father Bruno Swiatocha and keep all the Brothers informed concerning Father’s condition. We are grateful to Barnacle Bill for leading the 5th Sunday Rosary, just one of their efforts to support Right to Life. Both Bill and Nancy consistently and diligently support the activities of Council #9039, Assembly #3115, the Columbiette Auxiliary and Saint Brendan the Navigator Parish.

Since becoming a Knight in 2015, Brother Bob has enthusiastically participated in many Council activities, often accompanied by his wife, Jane, including regularly soliciting for the N.C. L.A.M.B. Annually this couple joins the group that goes to the Right-To-Life Rally and march in Raleigh, demonstrating their unconditional support the sacredness of life. Recently they have assumed the leadership role in the St. Brendan Loaves and Fishes Food Panty that operates three days a week; this is very significant time and commitment role for them. The members of this Council are indebted to Brother De Joie and Jane for all they do for St. Brendan’s Parish, this Council and this community.
