• First, the Knight of the Month is Peter Card. Pete is a quiet man, and he doesn’t draw attention to himself, but we can count on him to do all the things that make our Council go. Pete always steps up to help out at degree exemplifications, he volunteers his time at RJS events, and he always comes to the Business Meetings. We really could use a few dozen more Pete’s in our Council. Thanks, Pete, for being a loyal and stalwart Knight of Columbus
Rick is our Community Program Director, and he has done a good share of the heavy lifting for the Council over the past month or so. This past month he spearheaded our Annual Tootsie Roll Drive that raises money for persons with developmental disabilities. Rick was at every mass over the weekend it was held at our Church, and this year he arranged for our Council to collect outside of the Bloomingdale Publix. He is active in Fourth Degree Assembly 1850 via the Color Corps and his work with the Veterans. Also he continues to oversee the quarterly road side cleanups that support the Keep Hillsborough Beautiful initiative, and he is a Lector in our parish. Thanks, Rick, for being a loyal and stalwart Knight of Columbus.
Congratulations to our Knight of the Month, Mark Lovejoy. Our Past Grand Knight has been everywhere this past month. He has helped out at the IncrediBULL Games at Bloomsdale High School, got the Knights Bowling League off and running, and has been instrumental as the head of the Retention Committee in bringing Knights back into the Council and encouraging Knights to advance in their degrees. Thanks for all you do, Brother Mark.
It is with some degree of sadness that we recognize Mike Formato this month as our Knight of the Month as he is moving back to Georgia in March as a result of his job. Mike is a past Grand Knight, Faithful Navigator, and District Deputy in Georgia, and he brought all of that experience to our council for the past several years. He has served our Council in many ways including as the Advocate and Degree Team Captain. Most importantly he has been a steadfast contributor in all of our activities, and he has been a great Catholic friend. He recently told me: “Although this was not the council I became a Knight in, I do consider this council to be home, and the epitome of what a Knights council should be.” High praise from a Knight who could have been Knight of the Month every month. Godspeed, Mike!
our Knight of the Month who is a recent transfer to our Council, and he has literally been involved in every event since he joined the Council. Among other activities, he has helped out with the Squires’ Keep Christ in Christmas Card sales, volunteered at road side clean ups, completed training and volunteered for our fundraising events at Raymond James Stadium, joined the motley crew who set up the crèches at the church and school, and helped out at the Saint Nicholas Day Pancake Breakfast. Also, he stepped up to become next year’s membership director. He has been a great example for what it means to be a Knight at Saint Stephen. Congratulations to our Knight of the Month, Chris Pasquariello.
For his great pancakes at the St. Nicholas Breakfast as well as working at RJS.

• The Family of the Month is the Barry Hamel Family. Barry and his wife Melissa are among the original parishioners of the parish – he told me this past weekend that he was a teenager when Saint Stephen was still a store front on Bell Shoals Road. Barry consistently helps out at many of the Knights events, and the whole family is active in the liturgical ministry. It struck me this weekend that when I see Barry, I almost always see his family as well. The Hamel family exemplifies family life in our Church, so congratulations to you and your family as our Council’s Family of the Month.

Our Family of the Month is the Alex Czopek family. Alex has spent the last 7+ years keeping the Council on the straight financial path as the Worthy Financial Secretary, and Diana has supported him every step of the way. Alex has done much more than track our finances – he drafts and maintains the budget each year; he submits the annual survey; he completes the quarterly audits; he maintains the membership accounts, collects dues, and assists in retention efforts; and he orders all of the council supplies. All these activities – and many other things I have omitted – require hours of dedication each week, and we have been blessed to have someone with the Wisdom of Solomon and the Patience of Job serving in this very important position. Thank you, Alex!
