Joe Hunter
It is with tremendous appreciation and gratitude that the OLOH Council
designate Joe Hunter Knight of the Month for May 2025.
Joe serves as the Council’s 1st Year Trustee and a Past Grand Knight. He
is always willing to donate his time and talent to assist the Council’s many
events throughout the year. Joe lends his culinary skills for the two Lenten
Fish Fry events which are a huge parishioner favorite. He also lends a
hand in the kitchen during the Parish pancake breakfast. He is the first to
volunteer for any event especially if it involves grilling including the recent
end of year BBQ. For the Parish Christmas Market tree sales, Joe along
with another knight, Roger Bracken, rented a van and drove to
Pennsylvania to pick up selected Christmas trees and unloading them at
the Parish. As 1 st Yr Trustee, Joe oversees the audit of submitted
reimbursement receipts by fellow knights and an active participant in the bi-
annual financial audit of the Council. For the last several years, he has
served as the Council’s Membership Director and shepherds all new
knights processing their initial paperwork, presenting them to the Council
for a vote to join the Order, and scheduling and attending their 3 rd degree
exemplification ceremonies throughout our District parishes: St. Catherine
of Siena, Christ the Redeemer and St. Joseph’s. This requires a
tremendous amount of Joe’s time which the Council is grateful for his
commitment.
As a 4 th degree member of the Assembly, he serves as a 2 nd Year Trustee
and a member of the Color Corps assisting at the Bishop’s Stational Mass
and Feast of our Lady of Hope-Anniversary of the Dedication of the
Church, Our Lady of Guadalupe Mass procession and guarding the
Crucified Hearts Relics tour. Joe also stands in respect at the funerals of
Sir Knights. This is the final demonstration of respect for members and
their families during a particularly difficult time in their lives and the final
demonstration of fraternalism and unity for a member.
Joe exhibits strong Christian values and he is a true asset to our Council
and Parish. Please join me in congratulating Joe Hunter Knight of the
Month for May 2025.
Fred Mendicino
It is with tremendous appreciation and gratitude that the OLOH Council designate Fred Mendicino
Knight of the Month for April 2025.
Fred currently serves as Respect for Life coordinator for the Parish. Fred led the Parish participation in

faithful Catholics to meet directly with state delegates and senators to advocate in favor of legislative
action protecting the sanctity of the unborn and the sacredness of family life.
He also spearheaded the Parish’s Virginia March for Life on April 2nd. He coordinated bus transportation
for parishioners and students to and from the Parish to the state capital in Richmond. In addition, he

arrived back at the Parish.
Thanks to Fred’s dedication and attention to detail, all the participants were thankful to be part of this
march to show the state legislators our resolve to protect the life of the unborn.

breakfast, Tom made sure there was enough food as this one event which was the
Council’s busiest to date and raised over $1200 for Catholic Charities USA- Hurricane
Disaster Relief.
In addition, Tom volunteers his time and talent to other Council activities such as the
recent Coats for Kids donations event and his service as a long time usher.

Duncan Knight of the Month for August 2024.
Brother Tom has been a long serving member of our Councill and Parish. He volunteers his

recently stepped up to fill a void for Outer Sentinel for the Pope John Paul II Assembly. Tom
readily volunteers his time as OLOH usher at both the 0900 and 1215 masses and you can find
him assisting with set up and volunteering at our Pancake Breakfast, a favorite event for many
parishioners.
In addition, Tom is one of five Team Leaders responsible for the conduct of Scripture Services
and the distribution of Communion each Sunday for the inmates at the Loudoun County
Detention Center. As Team Leader, he assigns each team member, normally 5 men and 2
women to the proper Pod and updates them on any changes. After the Service he prepares a
consolidation report to the Prison Ministry Coordinator based on inputs from each volunteer
which lists the number of inmates from each Pod who attended, any request that they have
made, and recommendations for improvements.
Always willing to be proactive on Parish/Council issues, he was instrumental in bringing up the
safety issue of trucks and trailers parked alongside our shared access road to the entrance of
the Parish which has now been eliminated with no parking signs.
Tom’s teamwork and dedication are in great part responsible for making our Parish a vibrant
community. Our Council is indebted to Tom for his dedication. Please help me in

Tim Melia
It is with great honor and appreciation that Our Lady of Hope Council 12791 nominate Tim
Melia Knight of the Month for July 2024.
Tim serves as the Recorder for the Council responsible for keeping and maintaining a true and
permanent record of all actions, reading the bills and correspondence during the Business
Meeting which he performs admirably. In addition, he showed great leadership and initiative
to get the No Parking signs on the pipestem road as you enter the Parish parking lot by the gas
station. Tim conducted research with the Sheriff’s Office, the County property records which
set the stage for Fr. Killian to coordinate with Falcon’s Landing, Va Tire & Auto, and the gas
station about installing the signs. This successful effort now leads to a significantly safer street
entrance without the big trailers that parked along the shared street, a significant
accomplishment. Tim is also leading the effort in researching alternative interest-bearing
savings accounts to increase our Council’s budget.
He is a member of the Pope John Paul II Assembly. He coordinates with the other Assembly
parishes, St John’s the Apostle in Leesburg and St. Francis de Sales in Purcellville in scheduling
Assembly meetings at their locations to bring fraternity among the members. In addition, he
was instrumental in planning the St. Faustina Relics tour last September at OLOH which was
well attended and co-chairing the effort for the upcoming relic program “Call from the Crucified
Heart”. Tim is also very active with the Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH) and a parish lector
since 2000.
We are extremely grateful for his willingness to support our many activities and he is a true
asset to our Council and Parish. Please join me in congratulating Tim Melia Knight of the Month
for July 2024.

It is with great honor and appreciation that Our Lady of Hope Council 12791 nominate Robert
Hodges Knight of the Month for June 2024.
Robert serves as deputy grand knight who I have come to depend on since the start of the
fraternal year, assisting me greatly throughout this year in sending out knight announcements
or accompanying me to state events in the area. When there is a need at council events, he
steps in wherever he can to assist from serving food or tending bar. He lends his natural vocal
talent as a member of the church choir and also assists the parish audio-visual team. He was
appointed Parish Vocations liaison and is responsible for coordinating with the Arlington
Diocese for keeping vocations in the spotlight at all times in our parish. Robert recently

students. Bill lends his technical acumen to the parish audio visual team and to the newly
created IT team. This team is responsible for updating the Knight’s website and expanding our
social media outreach. Bill participated in judging the OLOH Science Fair, providing valuable
insight, advice, and feedback to students who aspire to work in the science field.
Bill quietly works behind the scenes assisting and supporting other recent Council events such
as the Christmas Market, St. Patrick’s Party celebration, the Lenten Fish fry and Easter Egg Hunt,
to name a few.

Bob and Mary Beth Neiman
It is with great honor and appreciation that the OLOH Knights of Columbus Council #12791 name The
Neiman Family as Family of the Month for April 2025.
Bob and Mary Beth Neiman are long time members of the Parish. Bob serves as 1st Year Trustee and is a
Past Grand Knight (PGK). I have relied on his counsel throughout my tenure as Grand Knight. Bob and
Mary Beth have volunteered their time and talent for the betterment of our Council and Parish. At the
recent Lenten Fish Fry, Bob oversaw the serving and general operations while Mary Beth collected
money and checking in patrons. Both Lenten events were well attended and showcased the Council’s
commitment during the Lenten season. Also, they both assist in the kitchen and selling of food at the
Parish Christmas Market and Parish Picnic. Bob leads the Food for Families program and thanks to his
tireless dedication, the parishioners have donated over 15,500 lbs. for this fraternal year which helps
needy families right here in Loudoun County.
As a 4th degree member of the Assembly, Bob serves as Faithful Admiral. As a member of the Color
Corps, he serves in distinct regalia at the following civic and church events: Bishop’s Stational Mass and
Feast of our Lady of Hope, Anniversary of the Dedication of the Church Mass. This also includes the
Sweats for Vets ceremony at the Veterans Administration in Martinsburg, WV and leading the
procession for Our Lady of Guadalupe Mass. Bob as a member of the Color Corps stands in respect at the
funerals of Sir Knights. This is the final demonstration of respect for members and their families during a
particularly difficult time in their lives and the final demonstration of fraternalism and unity for a
member.
The Neiman’s exhibit strong Christian family values and live them every day. We are grateful for their
devotion to the Knights and OLOH and it is with great honor to name them the Family of the Month for

John and Valeria (Val) Hartmann
It is with great honor and appreciation that the OLOH Knights of Columbus Council
#12791 name The Hartmann Family as Family of the Month for March 2025.
The Hartmann brothers: Patrick, Kyle, and Matthew are well known as part of the 0900
Usher crew on Sundays. These young men are attentive to their usher duties and are
always well dressed. They are polite and polished. On many occasions, they have
stepped up to fill in for the 1030 and 1215 masses when the need presents itself. It is
evident that their parents John and Valeria (Val) Hartmann have instilled a commitment
to service in their three sons. Val Hartmann is an invaluable volunteer with the
Religious Education program as described by Jackie Reagan, Director of Religious
Education at OLOH. Val has been a volunteer for 5 years. She started off as an Aide
for 6th grade during Covid and switched to being the 2nd grade Catechist in the last four
years. Second Grade is one of the hardest grades to teach because it is a vital
preparation year for the Sacraments of First Penance and First Holy Communion. Val
also volunteers for the Penance and Communion retreats and gives of her time and
talents to her students generously and with a loving heart. Val Hartmann models true
discipleship of Jesus Christ.
We are grateful for their devotion to the Parish and it is with deepest appreciation and
gratitude that we announce the Hartmann Family as Family of the Month for March
2025.
Ric and Carol James
It is with great honor and appreciation that the OLOH Knights of Columbus Council
#12791 declare Ric and Carol James as Knight Family of the Month for January 2025.
Ric currently serves as our Council’s Treasurer and has been a long-standing member
having served as a Past Grand Knight. Recently he diligently researched Certificate of
Deposit (CD) rates for our Council and weighed the costs and benefits that it would
bring. He personally met with the bank executives and successfully locked in a
competitive CD rate. He continually monitors the maturity dates and considers options
for further purchases. The higher interest rate allows the Council to be better stewards
of our money and expands our capability for additional charitable causes.
Ric has served as Program Director (PD) for several years including this past OLOH
Christmas Market along with his wife, Carol. Ric and Carol’s dedication to the
Christmas Market was instrumental to its success this year just as it has been for
several prior years. Both spent a substantial amount of time planning the event,
including coordinating with the vendors and parish groups, advertising the event and
ensuring the set up and cleanup went smoothly.
Ric oversees the Keep Christ in Christmas (KCIC) card sales. Ric coordinated the
sales after all masses, at the Christmas Market and other OLOH events such as the
pancake breakfasts. Ric also works at the pancake breakfasts collecting credit card
payments on the Council’s Square Point of Sale account.
Ric also volunteers his time and talent as a member of the audio-visual team streaming
mass at OLOH on the weekends. Streaming is vital to those in the parish who cannot
make it to mass, are out of town or for some who just want to watch to previous masses
again. Additionally, Ric updates the Council and Assembly websites.
In addition to working in the clinic at OLOH School, Carol amazingly found time to help
judge the Keep Christ in Christmas Poster Contest and coordinate the Sunday donuts
for the parish the day after the Christmas Market.
We are very privileged for the dedication that Ric and Carol James bring to the OLOH
parish and community. Their volunteerism is immeasurable, and we are honored to
recognize them as the Knight Family of the Month for January 2025.
Hernandez
It is with tremendous appreciation and gratitude that the OLOH Council name Ron
Hernandez Family of the Month for November 2024.
The Hernandez Family has been selected for their outstanding contributions to the
OLOH parish and the Knights of Columbus. Ron once again volunteered in leading this
year’s Coats for Kids campaign. Beginning in October, he orchestrated the organization
and planning after mass fundraising which totaled more than $4,000 dollars in
collections thanks to the generosity of OLOH parishioners. Over 200 coats were
ordered and Ron along with his lovely wife, Bonnie, and his two sons Alex and Daniel
along with the help of other volunteer families sorted and packed the coats for delivery
to four Sterling schools. The deliveries were completed by mid - November, in time
before the real cold weather descended upon the region. Any remaining coats would be
delivered to the Sterling Women’s shelter.
The Hernandez family’s willingness to support our Council helps our entire parish
community. They exhibit strong Christian family values and live them every day. It is
with deepest appreciation and gratitude that we announce the Hernandez Family of the
Month for November 2024.

Family of the Month for October 2024 to Jim and Melisa Ryan.

Paul Assembly II. Jim also volunteers his time and talent as a lector for the Parish. As
Faithful Scribe for the Assembly, he is responsible for maintaining a true and permanent

Knights of the Assembly including our Faithful Friar, Fr. Killian. It is distributed to all
Assembly members which also includes St. John the Apostle Church in Leesburg and
St. Frances de Sales in Purcellville. The newsletter has received rave reviews by
members in large part due to Jim’s articulate and eloquent mastery of the written word.
As Chancellor for the Council, Jim plans the Corporate Communion Mass twice a year.
His lovely wife, Melisa, also assists Jim in preparing for these events. The mass is for
knights and their families to celebrate the Eucharist together as a Council family in a
show of unity and fraternity, tenants of our knight’s core values. He coordinates with the
lectors to schedules knights during the mass and afterwards, with the help of Melisa,
prepares a delicious light fare of breakfast items during the fall mass or an assortment
of wines and cheeses during the spring time mass.
We are thankful for their contributions to the Knights of Columbus and our Parish
community. It is with great honor to name Jim and Melisa Ryan Family of the Month for
October 2024.

John Paul Assembly II. Eddie took the initiative and happily decided to accept the
challenge to serve as the Grand Knight for a second term. He led the Council 9/11
Memorial Golf Tournament, which was a great success, with proceeds supporting
Catholic education. Eddie led the Blessed Michael J. McGivney BBQ on August 18 th
and assisted with this year’s parish volunteer dinner in September. He participated in
the Pope John Paul II Color Corps at the Fr. Vincent Capodanno Memorial Mass on
Wed, Sept 4, 2024 at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception
in DC. Eddie also participated in the Crucified Heart Relic Program at St. John with Our
Lady of Hope Color Corp.
Viviane is the President of Our Lady of Hope Women’s Group and assists Eddie with
many Knights of Columbus events such as the recent 9/11 Memorial Golf Tournament.
Most recently she volunteered at the parish volunteer dinner and assisted with
decorations and serving of food. She also assisted with the planning for the parish
picnic and with the Knight’s council officer installation dinner. She will once again be
starting up Donut Sunday in October, which is a wonderful parish event to bring the
community of parishioners together. In addition, Viviane demonstrates her Catholic
faith by regularly attending the daily Catholic mass during the week at OLOH and by
staying afterwards to pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet.
Additionally, both daughters Sara and Olivia contribute regularly with parish events,
most recently with the Father McGivney BBQ by working the check in table.
The Castaneda’s provide a tremendous amount of their time and talent to Our Lady of
Hope Parish. We are grateful for their devotion to the Knights and OLOH and it is with
great honor to name them the Family of the Month for September 2024.
Jay and Bridgett Boggs
It is with great honor and appreciation that OLOH Council 12791 nominates Jay and Bridgett
Boggs Family of the Month for July 2024.

within our parish and school. Jay can always be seen assisting and supporting our annual Lenten

the reins working the snow cone machine, a very popular picnic favorite. He is a valued
member of our council and always willing to help where needed. In addition, he previously
served as a long- time basketball coach for the OLOH School.
Jay’s lovely wife, Bridget, has volunteered her time and talent toward the planning and

soliciting support from the OLOH students. As President of the Parent Teacher Organization, she
leads many successful school events such as the School Bingo, crusader walk, family talent
night, the used uniform sale, and the very popular Gala Auction which provides tremendous
financial support to the school. She also assists spearheading the joint school/knight Donuts

Catherine Johnson as Family of the Month for June 2024.
Since joining the Knights last year, Andrew has been an integral member providing his time and
talent for the good of the Council and the Parish. Andrew volunteers at our monthly pancake
breakfasts regularly. Andrew is always so conscientious in helping meet the needs of many
parishioners. In fact, many of our parishioners have lauded him for his generous manner of
tending to families while comparting a congenial demeanor. Andrew is also a member of the
Parish Picnic Committee where he lends his support to make this flagship event a success.
Looking to greater assist the Council, he graciously sent his name forward for the position of
Warden in the coming fraternal year.
Andrew’s lovely wife, Catherine, is a member of the OLOH Women’s Group. She has helped in
many Women’s Group events. She and Andrew supported the Feast Day of Our Lady of
Guadalupe Celebration back in December. Most notably, Catherine was the Chairwoman for
this year’s Marian Tea. Catherine framed the vision for this year’s Marian Tea theme as Our
Lady and Her Many Marian Titles. It was a very personal and uniting theme that was visible with
the titles on each of the tables and decorated with Our Lady’s majesty on the day. Catherine
lent her ingenuity in helping organize volunteers, decorate, and create a beautifully themed
Marian Tea. In addition, she enlisted Andrew to assist with hot water duty, clean up, and
leading the high school volunteers in table service. Overall, Catherine brought together a
devoted Marian Tea that honored our Blessed Mother, Mary, and patroness in this year’s
Marian Tea.
The Johnson’s continue to share their time and talent for the betterment of our parish. They
are truly a Catholic family who live their faith and provide invaluable support. It is with deepest

for reverently presenting the communion gifts. Both have supported the Lenten Fish Fry for
many years and their macaroni and cheese is a delicious crowd favorite. Frank has been a
longstanding contributing member of the Knight scholarship committee providing valuable
advice and guidance to this important program. He also contributes his time supporting
pancake breakfasts helping clean up afterwards which is always appreciated.
The Feola’s continue to share their talent for the betterment of our parish community. They
exhibit strong Christian family values and live them every day. We are thankful for their
contributions and it is with great pleasure that we recognize Frank and Melissa Feola Family of
the Month for May 2024.
