Jiannuzzi Family
Tim Jr, Rebecca, Mila, Micah, Drew and Cara Jiannuzzi:
The Knights of Columbus Reverend David J. Schiller Council 11910 has selected your family as our “Family of the Month” awardee for September 2021.
Since the second Vatican Council, and especially during the pontificate of St. John Paul II, it has become clear that the family is “the way of the Church.” But the Christian family too has its own indispensable mission. Your family exemplifies the accomplishment of this mission.
Consistently your family demonstrates the values of the Church combined with the love and unity of family for all to see in our Church, community and to the members of our council.
You have worked collectively as a family to learn, nurture and demonstrate your faith and to build strong family bonds;

Since the second Vatican Council, and especially during the pontificate of St. John Paul II, it has become clear that the family is “the way of the Church.” But the Christian family too has its own indispensable mission. As St. John Paul II wrote in Familiaris Consortio, “The family has the mission to guard, reveal and communicate love.” This mission is at the heart of the “community of life and love” that begins with the married couple in the sacrament of matrimony.
Your family exemplifies the accomplishment of this mission. Tim and Alice were married 42 years ago as of tomorrow, March 11, their anniversary. Another milestone in the growth of their family as the Domestic Church of the Lord.
Over the years they continued to stay active in service to their parish. Eventually meeting Father Ed at St Thomas and moving to St Theresa parish. They have always engaged in service - whether in a leadership role, a servant role or as teachers of our next generation of Catholics.
Like many Catholics they evolved as they raised their family in our faith in the face of a changing world – but central to their foundation for family was revealing, growing and communicating love for our Lord, sanctity of life and the importance of family. The resulting faith and family bond are regularly evident at mass for all to see. Also, the bond is evident in the care and commitment to Alice’s mother who is in a nursing home.
Commitment to our faith made by one in a marriage is a commitment shared by both Tim and Alice. Whether for Perpetual Adoration as they have for 7 years or to the continuance and success of the Men’s Retreat and ministry. Tim’s co-leadership of the Men’s Retreat delivered results in the many men including me that found a new or renewed connecting with Jesus.
We thank you for the example and we wish you God’s Blessing as a Domestic Church of the Lord.

Family of the Year: Mario and Sonia Rosas Family
The follow information is provided to support the Rev. David J. Schiller, Council 11910’s nomination of the Mario and Sonia Rosas Family for the South Carolina State Council 2017‐2018 Family of the Year:
The Mario and Sonia Rosas have two sons Ulises (25) and Luismarrio (20) attending college in Charleston, SC. The family is a member of St Theresa the Little Flower Parish in Summerville, SC. Mario, Ulises and Luismarrio are Knights and Sonia is a member of the Columbiette Auxiliary. Ulises is the Council Warden and a 1st Degree ceremonial team member. They are highly active members of this parish since 2013, and have made an indelible mark on our Parish, Council Auxiliary, our community and to their home community in Nogales, Mexico. This family demonstrates their faith, the values of the Church and the Knights of Columbus combined with the love and unity of family for all to see in our Church, community and to the members of our council. They work, pray and serve the Church, community, and each other as a unified family.
The Rosas family is from Mexico and now a permanent resident living in Summerville, SC. An example of their sustained demonstrations of our faith and the values of the Church and the Knights of Columbus is in their continued service and charity, for over 13 years, to the Casa Hogar Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos Cristo Rey, (House of our little children Christ King) orphanage. Their service included roles as Directors of the Board, Fundraising Developers, Donors, working to transform the small orphanage into a more functional and stable orphanage capable of serving more children and adapting the orphanage to accommodate children with special needs. Throughout the years they were also involved in the loving care of the orphans. Ulises and Luismarrio are now and were over the years a part of this ministry; sharing their dad when playing with the kids and helping in the orphanage home activities. Even now the Rosas family returns annually to serve in the orphanage and care for the orphans.
In Mexico and now in our Parish the Rosas Family develops family service projects, assembles volunteers and works to coordinate family activities. Sonia lead the local organization of Charity Organizations for 8 years. Mario coordinated Church family activities with the objective to engage more families in church activities, participating in mass helping the offertory and readings.
Mario is our Council’s Family Director and with his family is leading and working in projects such as Family of the Month, 40 Cans for Lent food drive, Coats for Kids, the parish Fall Festival Fundraiser, Marriage Vowels Blessing Mass, Family Mass, Ladies Appreciation Dinners and Council Socials. Additionally, Mario and Sonia serve on our Council’s Domestic Church Working Group. Their contribution resulted in the definition and planning of three major initiatives: Generations of Faith Virtual Education, Parish Marriage Vowel Blessing events and Catholic Family Man Education Series.
Mario is a leadership member of the Men’s Retreat Ministry and once again after a year of planning successful facilitated the Parish Men’s Retreat in February 2018. He and Sonia are leaders in our Parish Capital Fundraising Campaign to fund the building of a new $2.7M Parish Life Center. In the last 6 months through the leadership team’s efforts over $1M in pledges were raised.
The Rosas Family is committed to the belief in the dignity of life. This is seen in their work with the orphanage and in individual acts such as Sonia’s volunteer companionship and caregiving for a 96-year-old lady.
The Rosas Family remains strong, works, prays and serves not only others but each other. Their works of charity, faith, love and Catholic values are an excellent example of the family as the Domestic Church of the Lord. The Mario and Sonia Rosa Family is our Rev. David J. Schiller, Council 11910’s nomination for and deserves to receive the award for the Knights of Columbus Family of the Year.
