Job Ministry Event List Nov 2016-Apr 2017

Special Camps welcomes campers with intellectual disabilities and autism to participate in Special Camps week long, overnight camp experience with friends, guided by our all volunteer team of trained high school and college age camp counselors and experienced adult staff. We have 3 experienced volunteer RN nurse’s (most of whom are parents /caregivers of a special needs child / adult), who dispense all medications and care for your child’s medical needs while at camp.

2019 Dates: June 9 - 14 for kids ages 8 - 20, June 16 - 21 for adult campers ages 21 and over

Day Time Activities: Horseback riding, grooming and painting the horses, swimming, crafts, music + dance, archery, gold mining, talent shows, wood working, field games, and more.

Evening Parties include Hayrides, dancing with several great bands including the Blooze Brothers and the Cottage Cheese Heads, campfire songs with s’mores, bingo, line dancing, participating in a parade and more!

Location: White Pines Ranch in Oregon, IL. Located about 1/2 hour West of DeKalb. Free transportation via bus is available back home to the I88 Warrenville exit and Plano High School.

Cost is $350 for the overnight week, and covers all expenses while you’re there. The actual cost is closer to $600, but is significantly reduced thanks to your local Knights of Columbus, our all volunteer team, grants and donations. Thanks to the Knights, scholarships are available for anyone in need.

Applications are available on line www.specialcamps.org, or by contacting our camp director Colleen for more information.

Needed: Responsible caring teens to serve as volunteer camp counselors to 1 or 2 campers for the week. Also needed are patient, energetic additional adult men to serve as volunteer activity leaders / cabin dad’s. They will serve alongside our experienced staff members.

Restaurants that support us with our "Dine to Donate" fundraisers and Contribute to our events

Here is a short list of some of the area restaurants that have allowed us to run our "Dine to Donate" fundraisers.  In this program the restaurants give a portion of the cost of the meals back to our council.  When people (you do not have to be a Knight) present the flyer and eat, our council receives a check!  It's a great way to raise money and enjoy a good meal at some of our great area restaurants.  We strongly encourage you to frequent these fine establishments anytime but especially when they are running a Dine to Donate for us.
