Frank Ristaino Scholarships

Eligibility Awards will consist of up to four awards of amounts between $750 and $1500, for students in either elementary grades 1-8 or high school grades 9-12. Applicants must be a child or grandchild of a Knights of Columbus Third Degree member of Annapolis Council #1384, and must be in good standing relative to paid-up dues.

Applicants must be attending or planning to attend an accredited Catholic school in the area. Scholarship awards are for tuition only and for the 2020-2021 academic year. Application may be submitted for subsequent years but there is no guarantee of renewal of the award. A key factor in the evaluation of scholarship candidates will be the sponsor’s participation in Annapolis Council activities over the past year. Awards will also be based upon academic excellence, personal qualifications, and financial need. In the area of personal qualifications, overall community service and support for the church from the applicant and applicant’s family over the past year will be a factor in the award evaluation. Preference will be shown for deserving candidates who have not recently been awarded a Ristaino Scholarship, although recent winners with outstanding qualifications will still be considered for the award. The applicant should submit a HANDWRITTEN essay; the topic is “As a Catholic Student, what does going to Mass mean to you?”

Checklist The application must include materials in the following order: 1. The Application Form 2. Transcript of student’s latest grade report. 3. TWO letters of recommendation: either one from a religious source, such as a priest or Religious Education teacher, one from a teacher of choice; and one from a noneducational acquaintance other than parents or relatives. (note: only 2 of the 3 reference options are needed) 4. Student’s one page essay on: “As a Catholic Student, what does going to Mass mean to you?”

Submit Application and all documents at the same time. The application deadline is April 5th, 2020. Awards will be announced by April 19th, 2020 and sent to the Principal of the applicant’s school for application to the student’s tuition account for 2020-21 academic year.
