Joseph John Triolo of Zion, Illinois passed away peacefully on January 11, 2018. He was born in Wilkinson, West Virgina to the late John Triolo, Sr. (1962) and Mary (Azzer) Triolo (1965) on March 3, 1920. Growing up in West Virginia he was raised in a coal mine community. After trying to work in mines, he realized he wanted to do something else, so his dad gave him some money and he ventured off to a recruiting office to join the United States Navy. He had a 21 year career in the navy and retired as a Chief Boatswain's Mate and is one of the Pearl Harbor Survivors. After the Navy, he enrolled in Lake Forest College at the age of 38 and received a Bachelor's Degree and furthered his studies at Roosevelt University. Upon graduation, he was hired into the North Chicago School District where he taught and was a counselor for 21 years. Joe met the love of his life, Katherine while he was stationed at Great Lakes Naval Station. They celebrated 63 wonderful years of marriage together. Joe and Katherine believed in helping people. With this, they decided to make significant donations to various colleges and community organizations. Some of the colleges he never attended, but learned of through advertisement and believed in their values. Joe and Katherine decided to donate their money now, while they were living, so that they could see those that they are helping. |
