WILLIAM JAMES ANDAHAZY JR.

 

William James Andahazy, Jr. of Grasonville, MD passed away on December 21, 2017 at Anne Arundel Medical Center. He was 76. Born on July 30, 1941 in Trenton, NJ to the late William James Andahazy, Sr. and Helen Hreha Andahazy. Bill graduated from Trenton Catholic Boys High School and then went on to St. Francis College in Loretto, PA, graduating with a degree in Physics. He attended the University of Maryland earning two masters degrees in Physics and Technology Management and completed additional graduate coursework at George Washington University, Penn State University and MIT. In 1964, he married Peggy Schuchardt and they resided in Annapolis until 2001 when they moved to the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Bill worked for the David Taylor Naval Research Lab and later as a Professional Staff Member for the US Congress, House of Representatives National Security Committee. He was awarded the American Defense Preparedness Association Bronze Medal for Special Service and has twice been awarded the US Navy's Meritorious Civilian Service Medal. Bill was a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Christopher's Catholic Church, St. Mary's Catholic Church in Annapolis and the founder and director of St. Vincent dePaul Society. He was a member of the Governor's Board on the homeless and was awarded the Caroline Brady Humanitarian Award and the Capital Newspaper's 1987 Person of the Year. He loved hunting, fishing, collecting decoys, eastern shore life and visiting Long Beach Island, NJ. Bill is survived by his wife Peggy Andahazy of Grasonville, MD; son Dr. William Raymond Andahazy (Denise) of Mountain Top, PA; daughter Christine Garvey (Chris) of Chester, MD; son Michael Albert Andahazy (Jill) of Ocean View, DE; six brothers and sisters, and six grandchildren. Visitations will be held on Thursday, December 28, 2017 from 2-4 pm and 6-8pm at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A. in Chester, MD. A Mass will be held on Friday, December 29, 2017 at 11 am at St. Christopher's Catholic Church in Chester, MD. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery.
