HELMS, EARL E. on May 22, 2001, age 81, of Monroeville, PA and Middletown, PA at his residence at Ecumenical Community in Harrisburg. Born July 22, 1919 in Bellaire, OH, he was the son of the late Charles and Velma Helms, a graduate of Bellaire High School, 1937, he was an Army veteran of WWII; he was retired from Edgar Thompson Works of U.S.Steel in Braddock, PA as a General Turn Foreman in 1978; a longtime member of St. colman Catholic church and most recently of the Seven Sorrows of the Blessed Mary, Middletown. Member of Knights of Columbus, avid sports fan, enjoyed traveling, he was founder of the Turtle Creek Chapter of AARP. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary; sons Ernest E. (Betty) of Winter Haven, FL, Donald E. (Sandy) of Middletown, PA; daughters Karen (Mark) McCully of Lawrenceville, GA; son-in-law Larry Viola of Scott Twp. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Charlene Helms and Denise Viola; also nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Friends received GENE H. CORL FUNERAL CENTER OF MONROEVILLE, 4335 Northern Pike. Visitation 7-9 Sunday and Monday. Mass of Christian burial St. Colman Church, Turtle Creek, Tuesday, 10am.
