oseph R. Comella, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2011 at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, IL. He was presently a resident at St. Patrick's Residence of Naperville. Joe was born in Chicago on March 19, 1938. He attended DePaul High School in Chicago. He was a graduate of St. Mary's College, Winona, Minnesota. In addition, he earned two Master Degrees. Joe began his professional life as a General Science teacher at Oakview Junior High School in the Skokie Public Schools. He went on to become more actively involved in improving the quality of life for all assisting Congressman (Alderman) Roman Pucinski in the 41st Ward. He was a campaign manager, Administrative Assistant and speech writer. He was a loyal democrat who wore out many pairs of shoes to get the vote out. His professional life also included being an environmentalist and assistant principal. He was also influential in the opening of New Horizon Center for the Developmentally Disabled in Chicago. He was active on the ground floor of its beginnings. In 1987 he moved to Tucson, AZ, where he again became active in the community- Church, School and politics. He met his beloved late wife Judith Cox in Tucson. He taught high school while he was in Arizona. Joe is known by many people as a person who cared and was able to help them out of some difficult times in life. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Rose (Sansone) Comella and his wife Judy Cox and a step-son. He is survived by a step-daughter Angela and three step-grandchildren. He is survived by a sister Carole (Comella) Tadavich; brother-in-law Charles G.; two nephews Charles (daughter-in-law Michelle Bunty) and Thomas; and two grand-nieces Sydney and Sophia. A memorial service and Mass celebrating Joe's life will be held on Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011 at St. Patrick's Residence |
