Norfolk - Thomas Wedeking, 74, passed away Saturday evening, July 1, 2017 in Norfolk, VA. Tom was born in Wichita, KS on January 19, 1943, the eldest son of William L. and Adeline Wedeking, both of whom preceded him in death. Tom was raised in Topeka, KS and, after graduating from Hayden Catholic High School, went into the United States Navy, serving as a Yeoman until his retirement from active duty. Devoted to his three cats -- Smoky, Blackie and Precious -- Tom's pride and joy was his 1941 Dodge pick-up truck which he kept in mint condition. Tom was a proud Brother Knight of Columbus of Norfolk (VA) Council 367, "The First Council in the South," and a Sir Knight 4th Degree and a Past Faithful Navigator of Fr. Matthew J. O'Keefe Assembly 1162. Tom loved and married the dream of his life, Brenda Fugate, who passed away in 2016. Tom was also preceded in death by his sister, Molly McClellan, and twin sister and brother, Diana and Danny Wedeking. Left to mourn their departed Brother are siblings Sr. Mary Adeline, Wheat Ridge, CO; Beverly Boucher, Topeka; Nancy Turner, Hawthorne, CA; Joanne Murdock, Dickson, CA; Clarissa Nelson, Enumclaw, WA; James Wedeking, Lenexa, KS; William (Billy) Wedeking, Topeka; Leroy Wedeking, Topeka; Fr. Patrick Wedeking, Jamestown, NM; Anthony (Tony) Wedeking, Topeka; Stephen (Steve) Wedeking, Topeka; Darrel Wedeking, Topeka; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral and Wake services will be at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 2700 SE Virginia Ave., Topeka, KS. with the Wake Service on July 11th at 7 p.m. and the Funeral Mass on July 12th at 10 a.m. with military honors to follow.
