Donald G. Maynard CHESAPEAKE - Donald G. "Don" Maynard, 78, passed away Feb. 26, 2008. He was a native of Burlington, Vt., and a resident of Hampton Roads since 1951. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Marda Lee Anna Maynard. Don served his country honorably in the United States Navy before joining the private sector. He retired in 1996 as vice president of W.J. Browning Co. Inc where he was employed for 40 years. A member of the Hampton Roads Maritime Association throughout his professional career, he was well known and respected in the downtown community. Don was a longtime member of St. Pius X Roman Catholic Parish in Norfolk, and served in several volunteer capacities at both the church and school before moving to Chesapeake. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and the International Order of the Alhambra, Padul Caravan No. 69. He was an avid golfer and accomplished bowler, having learned the sport at a young age working as a pin boy in Vermont. He is survived by his daughters, Dolly M. Rosenbaum and her husband Butch, Karen M. Butler and her husband Douglas of Chesapeake, Sheryl M. Carson and her husband Vic of Blackville, S.C., and Aimee M. Estes of Chesapeake; his son, Donald G. Maynard II and his wife Monique of Norfolk; his sister, Lorraine Cloutier of San Antonio, Fla., and his half sister, Diane Johnson of Vernon, Conn.; 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He will be remembered for his steadfast courage and loyalty, his love, and the example he has set as a husband, a father and a friend. The funeral will be held in the Chesapeake Chapel of H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Saturday at 11 a.m. The Rev. Thomas Powers will officiate. Burial will be private.
