Marvin B. McCubbins NORFOLK - Retired U.S. Navy Lt. Cmdr. Marvin Burnell McCubbins passed away in his home Aug. 25, 2008, surrounded by his family. He had many friends and family members who loved, respected and counted on him in many ways. Marvin proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy for 30 years. He was aboard the USS Saint Louis in Pearl Harbor Dec. 7, 1941, followed by wartime service in many areas of the South Pacific. When his country needed him, he proudly served during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He joins his wife of almost 60 years, Mildred Marlene McCubbins, who predeceased him in 2006. Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Helen Ward and husband Rob of Norfolk; sons, Ron McCubbins and wife Linda of Norfolk, Jerry McCubbins and wife Judi of Salem, Ore., and Bob McCubbins and his wife Debby of Jamestown, N.C.; nine grandchildren, Robert McCubbins Jr., Jennifer McCubbins, Allison McCubbins, Lisa Johnson, Joseph McCubbins, Maryellen Ward, Carter Eads, Aaron Owens and Stephanie Gale. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday in St. Pius X Church by Father Juan. Interment will follow with full military honors at Rosewood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Kellum Funeral Home, Rosewood Chapel, 601 N. Witchduck Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23462. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Pius X Church, 7800 Halprin Drive, Norfolk, VA 23518.
