Harold C. Skinner Jr. NORFOLK - Harold Clement "Clem" Skinner Jr., 76, departed this life Sept. 17, 2011. He was born Oct. 10, 1934 to Avis Enid Holder and Harold C. Skinner Sr. in Woodbrook, Port of Spain, Trinidad. Clem served in the U.S. Navy as an accomplished musician and charismatic performer for more than 30 years, rising to the rank of master chief. Clem's specialty was the alto saxophone and he served in many ports of call, including teaching at the School of Music at Little Creek. The highlight of his career was as the leader of the Navy Show Band and he led the band on several international tours in countries such as Brazil, Chile and Paraguay. Following his retirement in 1991, Clem pursued another passion of his - cooking - by completing a course of study at Johnson & Wales University. He also enjoyed racing homing pigeons and continued his lifelong joy of entertaining friends and family at his home. Clem was an affectionate and devoted father, brother, uncle and friend and was loved by all who knew him. He is survived by his children, Philip C. Skinner of Columbus, Ohio, Avis R. Skinner of Columbus, Ohio, Nicole A. Edmonds of Bowie, Md., Fernando J. J. Skinner Enciso of Fayetteville, N.C., and Monica T. Skinner of Norfolk; his granddaughters, Olivia E. Skinner of South Charleston, Ohio and Eden A. Edmonds of Bowie, Md.; his siblings, Leslie Olton Skinner, Courtney Skinner, Vilma Veronica Cropper, June Reviere, Anthony Mervyn Skinner (deceased), Andrew Skinner, Herbert Glen Holder, Glenda Fabien, Gregory Holder, Glen Martin Holder Jr., Victoria Jane Skinner, Winston Skinner (deceased) and Corinne Skinner-Carter; and a host of other relatives and friends. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. today, Sept. 22, at Our Lady of Victory Chapel, Norfolk Naval Base, with a reception immediately following at the Hilton Norfolk Airport, 1500 N.
