Virginia Beach - Romeo Joseph Marchand, RMC (Retired)-On February 24, 2012 God opened his arms to welcome a new gardener to tend his holy gardens. Born on October 18, 1918 to the late Albert and Cecile Marchand in Lowell, Massachusetts; he was one of five siblings. Romeo served the Department of the Navy for over 50 years. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council #367. Romeo was also an usher and parishioner of the Little Creek Catholic Chapel, since it's inception. Romeo is survived by his best friend and the love of his life of 66 years, Pauline Marchand. Also left to cherish his memory are his three sons, Bill Marchand and his wife Patty, Bob and Dana Marchand, Don Marchand and his wife Lorraine, and his beloved daughter Peggy Preece and her husband Robin. Romeo will be deeply missed by his grandchildren: Aimee Bader and her husband Michael, Sunny Hawkins and her husband James, Amber Armbrister, Jessica Marchand, Stephanie Preece, Joseph Marchand, Christine Preece, Robert Marchand, Nicholas Marchand, and Matthew Marchand. Romeo's legacy lives on in his three great-grandchildren: Megan, Will, and Emma. He is also survived by a brother, Gendron Marchand of New Hampshire. Romeo will always be remembered for his green thumb, huge heart, and the loving family he created. In celebration of his life, a Mass of the Resurrection will be held at the Little Creek Chapel on Wednesday, February 29, at 11:30 a.m. Romeo will be laid to rest with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
