Norfolk - Anthony Louis Montagna Jr. "Tony", 72, went home to be with the Lord, On Monday, Oct. 17, 2012. A native of Norfolk, he was the son of the late Anthony L. Montagna Sr. and Phoebe Estelle Selby Montagna. Tony was a Navy veteran and retired as a Captain, JAGC, USNR. He was the senior partner in the law firm of Montagna and Montagna, PC in Norfolk. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Jane Angela Montagna (Suzi), his son and law partner, Anthony L. Montagna III, and his grand-daughter, Phoebe M. Montagna, all of whom he loved so dearly. He had many cousins who were part of his extended Montagna family. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, he will be sorely missed, but his memory will be in our hearts forever. Tony was an avid reader who loved military history books, good food, and dogs. He will be remembered for his comedic personality, contagious laugh, and his love of the law. Above all else, a truer heart never beat for the Virginia Cavaliers. He was even known to proudly wear his "victory" tie around town the day after a "Hoo" win. He was active in Virginia Athletics and a life-long member of the University of Virginia Athletics Association. He spent seven years in Charlottesville and always referred to it as, "a pleasant place to linger". Tony was a member of many legal, civic, fraternal, and community organizations throughout his life. He was licensed to practice law in Virginia in 1965. Upon completion of his active duty service as a Division Law Specialist for the Second Marine Division at Camp Lejeune, N.C., he served as an Assistant City Attorney in Norfolk, and entered private practice in 1975. He was a member of the Association of the Trial Lawyers of America, Virginia Trial Lawyers Association, admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court, U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Virginia, U.S. Court of Appeals, and certified to practice before the Courts Martial of the Armed Forces of the United States. He also received the Armed Forces Reserve Medal/Second Award upon retirement from the Naval Reserves in 1985. He was a member of the Delta Theta Phi Law Fraternity, life member of the Naval Reserve Association, American Bar Association, Norfolk-Portsmouth Bar Association, Chesapeake Bay Ambassadors, Circus Saint and Sinners, and a former member of the Norfolk Fundraising committee for St. Jude Children's Hospital. Tony was a proud member of Post 35 of the American Legion, Roma Lodge, and past president of the Ryan Club of Norfolk, as well as a life member of the Elk's Club. A Celebration of Life will be held at The Episcopal Church of the Ascension, 405 Talbot Hall Road, Norfolk, Va. at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012 with The Reverend David W. Davenport officiating. The burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Family and friends will gather at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., 1501 Colonial Ave., Norfolk on Monday, Oct. 22, 2012 from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
