Norfolk - Charles "Chuck" Riggs, 84, of Jolima Ave. passed away on Friday, Sept. 13, 2013.
Born in Lyons, N.Y., he was a retired Captain from the U.S. Marine Corps after 23 years. He was a survivor of the Korean and Vietnam Conflicts. Charles was wounded in Korea, surviving the Chosin Reservoir in Korea and the Tet Offensive in Vietnam. He was highly decorated with two purple hearts.
Charles was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He always did his best to serve his family, church and community.
Left to cherish his memory is his devoted wife of 63 years, Frances A. Riggs; son, Richard Riggs and wife Nance; daughter, Linda Faine and husband Rick; son, Michael Riggs and wife Lynn; son, William Riggs and wife Jackie; nine grandchildren, Jennifer Pruitt, Theresa Stiehl, Daniel Faine, Melissa O'Brien, David Faine, Melissa Estep, Michael Riggs Jr., Jessica Riggs and Megan Riggs; 14 great-grandchildren and many friends.
The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel on Monday, Sept. 16, 2013, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013, in the funeral home chapel. Burial with full military honors will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
