George "Tony" Rushing
Norfolk - George "Tony" Rushing, 79, was born to Rachel and Mattie Louise Dorsey Rushing on June 6, 1937, in Sandersville, GA. He entered into eternal rest on June 10, 2016.
George grew up in Atlanta and upon his high school graduation; he joined the United States Navy serving as a Boiler Technician. After retiring from the Navy, George and his wife, Odessa, opened Ebony Florist and served the Norfolk / Tidewater area for over 30 years. George was an active parishioner at The Basilica of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception. He served on the Usher Board and was also a long-time member of the Knights of Columbus, a Catholic fraternal organization.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Melvia Odessa Rushing, two sisters, four children, eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, God-children, and many lifelong friends.
Visitation will be at Metropolitan Funeral Service, 7246 Granby St, Norfolk, VA 23505 on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at 12 pm, at The Basilica of Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception, 232 Chapel St, Norfolk, VA 23504.
