Life Legacy
A Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Cecil Hollingshead, 96, of Marshall will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday, December 16, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Visitation will be held Thursday from 5:00 until 7:00p.m. at Downs Funeral Home with a Rosary recited at 7:00. Mr. Hollingshead returned home from the National Day of Recognition of the 75th anniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbor, on 12/10 and passed away on 12/11 at 11:11am.
Cecil Hollingshead was born April 10, 1920 in Mont Belvieu, Texas to Henry and Barsa Hollingshead of Tarkington, Texas. As seen in recent newspaper articles, Mr. Hollingshead was a well-documented man; a man of great substance and history. He served his country with honor, dignity and pride. After his service to our country, Cecil joined the American work force until his retirement in 1985. On October 5, 1945, he married the love of his life, Beatrice Ruth Schmitz. Together they provided a warm and loving home to their 4 children. They would remain united in marriage for the next 66 years. After his retirement from Thiokol, Cecil continued to work as a cattle rancher and custom hay bailer. Cecil was a simple man, often seen wearing khaki shirts and pants, along with his cowboy hat. You would often find him on his tractor, sitting at his drafting table or golfing with his buddies, the medicare group, at the Oak Lawn Golf Course. In his final years, Cecil began to settle down and enjoy the simplicity of life. He spent many days fishing with his son and guardian, James, camping and golfing.
Cecil was preceded in death wife, Beatrice Ruth Hollingshead; his parents, and 5 siblings.
Those left to cherish his memory are sons and daughters-in-law, James Joseph Hollingshead of Marshall, Paul Thomas Hollingshead and wife, Davlyn of Marshall, and Daniel H. Hollingshead and wife, Phyllis, also of Marshall; daughter, Cecilia Hollingshead Newman of Marshall; ten grandchildren, Kimberly Carole and husband, Scott Wall, Adrienne Teresa and husband, Jeff Peace, Tiffannee Cassandra and husband, Shaun Watson, Jared Lee Hollingshead and wife, Lena, Jonathon Chase Hollingshead and wife, Samantha, Harold Jay Newman, II and wife, Sharon, Joshua Keith Hollingshead and wife, Cassie, Jennifer Ruth Newman, Stormy Dawn Hollingshead, and Holly Hollingshead Sallee. Also surviving Mr. Hollingshead are twenty-three great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. |
