CARL DROPCHINSKI PGK

 

ARL EDWARD DROPCHINSKI 89 of Coconut Creek, Florida passed away Sunday. August 19, 2012. Carl was born January 19, 1923 in Plains, Pennsylvania, the son of Peter and Bronslove Dropchinski (Peter Drabsznskie and Branistawa). Carl was one of five children in this family. He was educated at the West Nanticoke Grade School, and the Kingston High School in Pennsylvania. In January of 1943, Carl enlisted in the United States Army. He served with Gen. George Patton’s 1st Army in the 204th Artillery Division and fought in the Battles of Normandy, Northern France, the Rhineland and Central Europe. He was awarded four Bronze Stars. Upon completion of World War II, Carl returned home to Pennsylvania and attended Wilkes-Barre College for Accounting Courses. In April of 1949, he married Cecilia Glochowski, at the Holy Trinity Church in Nanticoke. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Hillside, New Jersey and then to North 20th St in Kenilworth. They were the parents of a daughter, Joyce, now Mrs. Frank Chiappetta, who resides in Kenilworth along with Carl’s Grandson, Frank. In April of 1967, Cecilia passed away. Carl was employed by the Ballantine Brewing Co. in Newark, for twenty- seven years. During this period, he served in the production and accounting departments. He then was employed by the Robbins Construction Co. of Union, N.J. In that position, his responsible for the installation and Maintenance of utilities of their various facilities. On October 31st, 1975, at St. Theresa’s Church in Kenilworth, Carl married MaryAnne Sarn- Knospe, a widow and mother of two sons, Garry and Robert who reside at 626 Oakwood Avenue, Roselle Park. He was an usher at St. Theresa’s Church for over eleven years and became a member of Father McVeigh Council No. 4186. During that period, he served on various committees of the Council and of the Columbian Club, such as: visits to Lyons Veterans Hospital, Annual Children’s Christmas Party, Tootsie Roll Fund raiser for retarded children and many other charitable functions. He moved through the Chairs to become the Grand Knight of the Father McVeigh Council during the period of 1978-1979. He was a Trustee of the Council, and a Trustee and President of the Columbian Club. For his distinguished service to the Council, he received the following awards: Certificate of Appreciation from the Supreme Council Founders Award, from the Supreme Council PGK Medallion P.G.K. Wall Plaque, outstanding Grand Knight from the Agency Department. All the Brother Knights appreciate the caliber of leadership that Carl has displayed as an active member and Grand Knight of the Father McVeigh Council. Carl is survived by his daughter Joyce (Frank) Chiappetta; grandson Frank (Tina) Chiappetta; great-granddaughter Amanda Chiappetta; great-grandson Anthony Chiappetta. Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 22, 2012 from 9am to 11am. Funeral Services will follow at 11am in the funeral home. Entombment Bailey Memorial Park, North Lauderdale, Florida
