SAMUEL J. STANCZAK

 

Samuel J. Stanczak, 91 of Gurnee, passed away early Monday morning January 14, 2013 at home.
He was born October 7, 1921 in Waukegan and married Catherine Kennedy on July 19, 1947 in Waukegan. He retired from Johnson Motors after 30 years of employment. He played accordian in a band called “The Drifters”
He was a charter member of St. Paul the Apostle Church in Gurnee where he was a Eucharistic Minister, Usher and Minister of Care. He helped organize the K.C. Wheelers at VA Hospital. He was in charge of a group of people helping patients attend mass at Libertyville Manor. He was a Grand Knight of K.of C. Waukegan Council #731 and Past Faaithful Navigator, 4th degree #0197. He volunteered to deliver Christmas baskets to the poor.
Sam was a veteran of the US Army Air Corps, repairing planes during WW II, member of VFW Post #1293, Gurnee American Legion Post # 991, Polish American Legion #5, Waukegan Moose Lodge #706
He is survived by a daughter Terrie Hemmings of Aurora, IL, a son Michael (Janet) Stanczak of Lindenhurst, IL, 2 grandchildren Michael & Thomas Stanczak, 3 brothers, Leo (Winnie) Stanczak of Lindenhurst, John Stanczak of Crossville, TN, Jim (Mary Kay) Stanczak of Waukegan.
Sam was preceeded in death by his wife Catherine in 2006, 2 brothers, Edward and Lawrence Stanczak, 3 sisters, Marcella Schmidt, Gerri Turkowski and Pat Habjan.
