Daniel Frank Kerpan of Waukegan, IL died Friday, June 24, 2016 at Vista East Hospital in Waukegan. Dan was born in Beach Park, IL March 16, 1923 to Paul and Ana Kerpan and raised on the family farm with thirteen brothers and sisters. Dan attended Bonnie Brook Grade School, Waukegan Township and Zion Benton Township High Schools. He was a U.S. Navy WW II Veteran with service in the South Pacific. In October 2012, Dan and his brother, Mike, joined 104 other WW II Veterans on a Chicago Area Honor Flight for a world wind tour of Washington D.C. Upon return from service he was employed at Cyclone Fence in North Chicago, IL. After retirement Dan spent many years working security at St. Therese Hospital (Vista West, Waukegan). Dan met his future wife, Lois Van Haecke, at the Catholic Young Peoples Club. They were married July 10, 1954. They have four sons; twins Daniel Jr. and Donald, Richard and Douglas. Dan was a member of St. Anastasia Catholic Church and The Holy Name Society for more than fifty years. He served on many fund-raising projects and was a dedicated worker at Wednesday Night Bingo. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and Lodge 848 of the Croatian Fraternal Union. Dan's greatest love was golf and he was a long-time member of Bonnie Brook Golf Club. Dan was paid a special tribute at the family's 50th Annual Kerpan Open for organizing the golf tourney in 1957. Dan loved watching all the Golf tournaments, the Cubs, da Bears and the Bulls. Dan is survived by wife, Lois; sons Daniel, Jr. (Jan) of Klamath Falls, OR, Donald (Veronica) of North Barrington, IL, Richard (Sue) of Aurora and Douglas of Waukegan. Grandsons Kyle of Aurora and John of Chicago and granddaughters, Kara Kerpan and Analise Kerpan, both of Portland, OR. His sister Amanda (James) Wolf of Waukegan and brother Michael Kerpan of Gurnee. Sister in-law Betty Kerpan of Lake Placid, FL and four generations of nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his mother and father, Paul and Ana Kerpan. Grandson Baby Ryan Kerpan. Brothers Louis (Patricia), John, Steve (Ann), Jack, Joseph (Stella), Joe (Pat), Paul (Rose) and sisters Milka (Joso) Sulentic, Mary (Tony) Cervac, Mary's twin sister Katherine, Anna Kerpan, Katherine Kerpan, Eva Conway and sister in-law Annette Kerpan. |
