Joseph Michael Podhurcak, 86, of Jeannette, died Sunday, Dec. 13, 2015, at his home. He was born Sept. 15, 1929, in Indianola, a son of the late John and Helen Boris Podhurcak. Joseph was a member of Blessed Sacrament Cathedral, Greensburg. Prior to retirement, he was program analyst for Conoco Phillips of Oklahoma. During the Korean War, he served with the Air Force in Japan as an air traffic controller. Joseph was a master rose gardener. He tended his church's rose garden, as well as the church garden for the area food bank. Also, he helped friends and neighbors with their gardens and loved building jigsaw puzzles. He belonged to VFW Post 33, Greensburg, Valley Green Country Club, American Legion, Jeannette, and was a life member of the Knights of Columbus. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Macelyn Duffy Podhurcak; his second wife, Maxine Podhurcak; three brothers, George, John and Andrew "Nicky" Podhurcak; and two sisters, Mary Grum and Helen. Joseph is survived by his wife of 23 years, Barbara Ellen Hutzler Podhurcak; a son, Michael Joseph Podhurcak; a daughter, Joanne O'Neil (William); stepson, Jeffrey Davis (Melissa); stepdaughter, Patricia Davis and fiance, John Cornwell; eight grandchildren, Kevin, Austin, Mary Grace, Kathryn, Theresa, Helen and Clare O'Neil and Cashlin Podhurcak; two stepgrandchildren, Cameron and Colin Davis; also several nieces and nephews; and his caregiver, Mary Colosimo. |
