Henry J. "Hank" Bogdala, Sr.

1931 - 2015

Henry J. (Hank) Bogdala, Sr. passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Friday, July 31, 2015.

Henry was born Dec. 23, 1931, in Evergreen Park, Ill. Henry was a lifelong resident of Waukegan, Ill. He was a Veteran of the United States Air Force (Korean Conflict). He retired as a sales person from Nationwide Technologies, Inc. Lake Forest, Illinois on April 1997. He was employed for many years as outside sales supervisor of classified department for the News-Sun. Awarded the best building idea award from the Mississippi Daily Newspaper Association. Henry was a former police officer for the Illinois Secretary of State Police Department and a member of the Illinois Police Association. He was also a former investigator for the Illinois Department of Revenue.

Henry was a member of the Waukegan Historical Society, a Waukegan Sunrise volunteer, Past Chairman of the Waukegan Environmental Committee, a member of the Waukegan Downtown Association. He worked with many civic and charitable organizations through the years such as the Lake County Retarded Childrens Society and Fr. Cull and the Friends of the Hungry. He was an active member of St. Anastasia Catholic Church having served on the Pastoral Council, reader and lector and Eucharistic Minister, Minister of Care for the Sick at Victory Memorial (Vista East) Hospital, Holy Name Society and former choir member.

Henry was a Member of the Lake County Sheriffs Merit Commission, Retired Board Chairman of the Waukegan Port District and Airport. He was also a member of Knights of Columbus Council #731 (4th Degree) in Waukegan, Illinois, Homer Dahringer Post #281 American Legion of Waukegan, Member of AARP (National and Local), and Past President of Sons of the American Legion Waukegan Chapter #150.

Henry was preceded in death by his beloved daughter Cynthia Bogdala-Lyle; his parents, Frank and Emma (Peslak) Bogdala; brothers, Roger and Frank, Jr. Bogdala; and sister Dolores Eveline Bogdala. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Beverly J. (Dyke) Bogdala; and his children, Henry, Jr. (Linda) Bogdala, Kevin (Ruby) Bogdala, Julia (Jerome) Shields, and Jeffrey, Sr. (Deborah) Bogdala. Henry is also survived by 9 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; his brother Richard (Jeannie) Bogdala; sisters, Shirley Lopez and Sandra Drennan; and a host of nieces and nephews.
