COUNCIL #1384 - ANNAPOLIS REMEMBERS
RICHARD EDWIN ORNBURN

 

Richard Edwin Ornburn, 91, a 43-year resident of Annapolis and previously of Mitchellville, MD, passed away on January 11, 2016 at Sunrise Assisted Living in Annapolis.

Richard was born on November 27, 1924 in Moberly, MO to the late Harry B. and Helen Klern Ornburn. He graduated from McKinley Technical High School in 1942 and earned his Bachelor of Commercial Science degree from Benjamin Franklin University in 1949. Richard served in the U.S. Army during WWII as a sergeant with the 3rd Infantry Division in New Guinea, Netherland East Indies and the Philippines, where he received a bronze star medal.

Richard retired from the I.R.S. in 1975, where he had worked as an examining officer, collections officer and analyst. He was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Annapolis where he served on the parish’s St. Vincent de Paul Society. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1384.

In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his loving wife, Elsie L. Ornburn, whom he married in 1972 and who passed away in 2010.

He is survived by his daughter, Renee Bass of Crofton; one grandson, Anthony Kolbe; and a sister, Elizabeth Kline.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, January 15 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 620 Bestgate Rd., Annapolis, MD. Entombment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton, MD. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society of Annapolis, Inc., c/o St. Mary's Church, 109 Duke of Gloucester St. Annapolis, MD 21401.
