John J. Daly, 91, of Pompton Plains, died peacefully on Sunday, December 6, 2015 at the Mountainview Gardens Nursing Home in Cedar Crest Village.
Born in Brooklyn, John was the son of the late John and Catherine Daly. Graduating from Cathedral Prep High School, John joined the Army Air Corps and served during WWII. Following his service with the Army Air Corps, John received his degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Miami and later earned an MBA from Seton Hall University.
Marrying Patricia McPadden, the couple raised nine children in Little Falls. John spent the majority of his career working as an Aeronautical Engineer with Kearfott in Little Falls. After retiring, he and Patricia moved to Hilton Head, South Carolina, where they lived for 17 years before moving back to Cedar Crest Village, Pompton Plains, several years ago.
John was a devoted volunteer in Holy Angels parish throughout his years in Little Falls and continued his involvement with the church during his retirement in Hilton Head and as a resident of Cedar Crest. While in Hilton Head, John was instrumental in the creation of the St Vincent DePaul Society, a service dedicated to serving the poor and disadvantaged.
In addition, John and Patricia have been affiliates to the Franciscan Province of the Holy Name of Jesus.
John is survived by his sons, Fr. Kevin Daly and Matthew and his wife Debbie; his daughters, Eileen Howard, Patty O’Brien, Maryann Cavino, and Rosemary Russo and her husband Tom; his grandchildren, Brian, Dan Jr. and his wife Kelly, Annmarie and her husband Mike, Susan, Jonathan, Patrick, Meghan, Jonathan, Jennifer and her husband Greg, Katie, Nicole and her husband Jason, David, Kevin and Timothy; his great-grandchildren, Nadia, Dan Ross III, Millie, Taylor, Kendall and Macy. He was predeceased by his wife, Patricia, daughter Kathleen, sons, Sean and Timothy, and his brother Gerard Daly.
Viewing at St. Anthony's R.C. Church, 65 Bartholdi Ave., Butler on Friday, December 11th at 10:00 prior to the funeral Mass at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, located across the street from St. Anthony's Church.
