Carl E. "Buck" Lear, 75, Altoona, passed away Saturday morning at his residence after an extended illness. He was born in LewisÂtown, son of the late Carl E. and Betty Jane (Houck) Lear.
On Oct. 23, 1968, he married Sandra Shoemaker in Cumberland, Md.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Matthew (Jennifer) of State College; a daughter, Rebecca Kline (Nathan) of Hollidaysburg; five grandchildren: Sam, Shannon, Emily, Hannah and Lilly.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Bonnie.
Buck was a 1968 graduate of Altoona Area High School. He retired as a machinist at Lumax.
He was a member of St. Therese of the Child Jesus Catholic Church and the Hollidaysburg American Legion.
Buck loved woodworking, fishing and hunting and cross-stitching, just like Rosie Grier of the New York Giants and Los Angeles Rams.
Friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at Plank, Stitt & Stevens Funeral Home, 421 Montgomery St., Hollidaysburg, where a vigil for the deceased will be held.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 24, 2025, at St. Therese of the Child Jesus Catholic Church, Altoona, with Father Brian Norris officiating.
Interment will be at Greenlawn Cemetery.
The family requests that donations in memory of Buck be made to St. Therese of the Child Jesus Catholic Church, 417 25th Ave., Altoona, PA 16601.
