Fred William Mau, 61, passed away on Tuesday, April 2, 2024. He died in his sleep at home of cardiac disease. Fred was born on April 26, 1962 in Martinsville, Indiana.
Fred graduated from high school early to join the Navy at age 17. He served 3 years in the field of nuclear power. He was especially proud to serve with the color guard. While serving his tour of duty, he attended the University of Maryland.
Despite not finishing his degree at Maryland, Fred built upon his Navy training and became an accomplished, self-taught electrical engineer. He loved solving the tough problems and was a genius at all things tech related. He spent several years working for Siemens and founded his own engineering company. At home, he enjoyed cooking for his family and friends, loved trivia, and was an avid feeder of birds. He put a lot of his problem solving skills to work designing bird feeders that would also thwart the squirrels with largely successful and hilarious results. He loved animals and could often be found typing with one hand while holding a cat with the other.
Fred is survived by Katy, his partner of 24 years, his parents Bill and Karen Mau, and siblings Eric Mau, Kevin Mau and Dixie Ardwin. |
