Raymond L. Snedecor Jr. passed away on January 13, 2022, at the age of 98, in New Hartford, CT.
Ray was born on March 10, 1923, in Bay Shore, NY. He joined the Navy in 1943, and he served in the South Pacific as a Navy Seabee during World War II. After the war, he returned to his job at Grumman Aircraft Engineering Corporation where he started in 1941. He retired in 1993. He is preceded by the love of his life, Pauline. They were married in 1946 in NY and later settled in Virginia Beach, VA with their two children, Jan and Joy.
Ray was a loyal member of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church where he was a long-time usher. During his retirement, he was a tireless and selfless volunteer for Lee's Friends, Meals on Wheels, Boy Scouts, and Eagle Scouts. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the VFW Post 4809. He also enjoyed playing golf and camping. Ray enjoyed life, his family, and many close friends over the years. He was always there to brighten the lives of others. Ray was an inspiration to all that knew him and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his son Jan Raymond “Skip†Snedecor and wife Pamela B. Snedecor; his daughter Joy S. Milam; grandchildren Raymond Snedecor, Melanie Matthews, Jessica Doherty, Britney M. Nash, and Justin Milam; great-grandchildren Alex, Christopher, Ashley, and Megan.
