William Thomas “Tom†Inderlied III, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away on October 14, 2021 at home with his wife, Karen, by his side. Tom was born in Wilmington, DE to the late William Jr. and Honore Shaw Inderlied. A 1960 graduate of the US Naval Academy, Tom was a member of both the basketball and Lacrosse teams when both won their respective national championships his senior year. Tom spent most of his Naval career as an F4 Phantom pilot aboard various aircraft carriers. He served with distinction in Viet Nam aboard the USS Saratoga. He also served as CAG LSO aboard the carrier Roosevelt. He commanded squadron VF103 at Oceana NAS. After his retirement, Tom used his skills as a Navy leadership and management instructor and joined the business world in Cleveland Ohio as VP of a manufacturing company. When the company moved to Phoenix, he became an adjunct business professor at the University of Phoenix. He was also involved in an incubator organization that mentored start up businesses.
After returning to Virginia Beach in 2004, Tom retired again and became an active member of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church. He loved being with his children as well as leaving a legacy of lacrosse players among his grandchildren. He also enjoyed playing golf with his many friends. |
