ROBERT LOUIS "BOB" STERMER

 

Robert Louis Stermer Jr, 88, of Norfolk, Virginia, passed away on January 2, 2024. He was born on January 27, 1935, in Dover, Delaware. He grew up in Ocean View. Bob was a devoted son, loving husband, caring father and proud grandfather. He leaves behind a legacy of dedication and achievement.
Robert was a proud veteran, having served in the United States Marines in 1953. After his military service, Robert pursued a career as an Electrical Engineer for NASA, where he played an integral role in designing spacecraft systems. His contributions to the field were invaluable, and his work will continue to impact the future of space exploration.
Robert's educational journey began at Holy Trinity School, followed by Norfolk Catholic High School. He furthered his academic pursuits at the University of Virginia and Duke University. His dedication to learning and intellectual curiosity were evident throughout his life.
In his personal life, Robert was a man of strong faith and worshipped at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Chesapeake. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 8240.
Robert will be deeply missed by his loved ones. He is survived by his wife, Sarah Jo Stermer, his son, Robert Stermer III, his daughter, Delores Washburn, and his daughter, Lisa Williams and Tracy-Leigh Mahan. He was preceded in death by his wife, Loretta Stermer, and his daughter, Barbara Williams.
