Charles Sperier, Sr. April 5, 1934 - December 2, 2014 Send Card Life Legacy | Life Stories | Life Timeline | Historic Documents | Family Tree A Mass of Christian Burial for William Charles “Charlie†Sperier, Sr., 80, of Woodlawn, will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Denzil Vithanage officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. A time of visitation will be held from 6:00-7:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at Downs Funeral Home. A Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. following visitation. Mr. Sperier passed away December 2, 2014 in Tyler, TX. Charlie Sperier was born in Marshall, TX, on April 5, 1934, to Alphonse Joseph, Sr. and Katherine Stevens Sperier. He received a B.S. degree from East Texas State College. Charlie was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. Charlie married Aura Adelle Mills on February 20, 1965 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marshall. In high school, he was employed by A&P Grocery and continued his employment there for 18 years. He then became manager of the Malt Shop in Jefferson for 10 years, manager of the Jefferson Dairy Queen for 6 years before he and his wife Adelle took over its ownership for 5 years. Charlie retired, but came out of retirement and went to work for Circle Y for 8 years. He was then employed by Howells Oil Company and managed the Chevron Convenience Store on South Washington from 1999 to 2006. Charlie enjoyed reading Readers Digest, getting a subscription while he was in grade school. He continued receiving them until he passed away. For the last 7 years, he resided in Tyler with his son in the Barclay Apartments where he enjoyed sitting and drinking coffee and making friends. He loved older Andy Griffith Shows and Gunsmoke. Surviving Charlie Sperier are his son, William Charles Sperier, Jr. of Woodlawn; brothers, Larry Sperier and Carl Sperier, both of Marshall, TX; sisters, Jane Scrivener of Marshall, TX and Elizabeth Klecka and husband Rudy of Victoria, TX; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Alphonse and Katherine Sperier; his wife, Aura Adelle Mills Sperier; and brothers and sisters, Al, John, Rita, Lucy and Anna. The family requests that memorials be made to the Knights of Columbus Scholarship Fund. William Charles (Charlie) Sperier Sr. joined the Knights of Columbus and our Council on Sept. 28, 1958 making his 1st, 2nd & 3rd Degree. Charlie served as our Grand Knight in 1965-1966. He became an Honorary Life on April 11, 2005. A 56 year member of our Order and Council. He is survived by his son William C. Sperier Jr.. His Brothers Larry and Carl are also members of our Council and their Father Alphonse was also a member. Charlie was preceded in death by his wife Adeline Mills Sperier. Charlie was born on 4-5-1934 passed away 12-2-2014.
