James R. Hennessey, 84, of Pottstown, passed away Monday, September 25, 2023 at the Reading Tower Health Hospital.
He was a son of the late Francis and Catherine (Close) Hennessey.
Jim was a graduate of St. Pius X High School (’58), a member of Knights of Columbus and Pottstown Elks Club. He was a huge sports fan and passionately cheered for the Phillies, Eagles and Notre Dame football. He worked for his family’s business, Rockwood Spring Water, for over 50 years. He enjoyed umpiring baseball games, refereeing football games and being the clock operator for Pottstown High School football and St. Pius football, basketball and wrestling for over 25 years.
He served as a board member of the Casey Service Club and Color Corps of Fr. Bally Council.
James is survived by five children: Francis W. Hennessey, Theresa H. Blackwell, James R.G. Hennessey (wife April), Michael J. Hennessey and Joseph G. Hennessey (wife Angela); brothers, Timothy Hennessey (wife Carol) and Kevin Hennessey (wife Donna), sister-in-law Pat and Brother-in-law Nick; 11 grandchildren: Lyndsay (Nathan), Kayla, Christian, Bryanna (Tanner), Jimmy, Devon (Edward), Rienn, Corey, Kevin, Adam, and Luke; and three great grandchildren: Jason, Carter and Ava.
Along with his parents, James is predeceased by a brother, Robert Hennessey and sister, Marilyn DiMuro.
A public viewing will be held Tuesday, October 10, 2023 from 9 a.m. till 11 a.m. in St. Aloysius Gathering Center, Pottstown. Mass will follow in the Church at 11 a.m.
Inurnment will follow Mass in St. Aloysius New Cemetery.
