Frank Robert Schachtner, 75, lost his courageous battle with Lymphoma on Wednesday at UPMC Altoona, surrounded by his loving family. He was the son of Frank Xavier and Josephine (Georgiana) Schachtner. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Janet (Tremel) Schachtner; his three loving children and five grandchildren: a daughter, Jill Breton (Joe) of Duncansville; sons: Steven Schachtner of Eagle, Colo., and David Schachtner (April) of Greensburg; five grandchildren: Nathan, Madison, Ryan, Noah and Avery Breton of Duncansville. Frank is also survived by two sisters, Josephine Stitt (Denny) of Altoona and Jean Paule (Fred) of Altoona; brothers-in-law: Frank Tremel (Mary) and Thomas Rightnour, both of Indiana, Pa., and Regis Tremel (Patricia) of Lilly; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, Joseph Dodson; nephews, Justin Dodson and Michael Tremel; and sister-in-law, Mary Beth (Tremel) Rightnour. Frank was a 1965 graduate of Bishop Guilfoyle High School and a 1969 graduate of Penn State University. He retired from Penstan Supplies in 2012. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Altoona and a member of the Knights of Columbus, Fourth Degree. Frank was a passionate fan of Penn State football and wrestling. He loved being outside golfing and gardening. Frank was also an avid reader and skilled card player who had a reputation for always winning. He was a kind and modest man. Frank was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and his greatest joy was spending time with his children and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him. Friends will be received from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 24, 2023, at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona, where a vigil for the deceased will be held.
