Philip L. Escuadra (“Phil, Tay Epingâ€) passed away peacefully at home on July 18, 2023. He was born 97years ago and grew up in Janiuay, Iloilo Philippines, the 10th of 12 children and 1 of 9 boys. Phil joined the Philippine Navy then enlisted in the US Navy in 1954, served 31 years, retiring as chief quartermaster. Duty commands and stations included numerous ships, few shore duty billets, which kept him away at sea for much of his Navy career.
He retired from the Navy in 1985 and enjoyed an active retirement: completed pre law and community college classes, attended ODU Lady Monarch basketball and Tidewater Tides games and watched his Washington Redskins football games. He also enjoyed fishing, gardening, time with grandchildren and weekend Atlantic City casino trips with his lucky charm/â€wifey†of 54 years, Julie and family friends.
Phil was a longtime member of Knights of Columbus, attained 4th degree Knight status, was active with KOC Council #367 and KOVAR activities. He was also a member of the Kahirup Visayan Philippine Group, served as an officer.
He was a faithful, longtime member of Christ the King Church since 1970, served as Eucharistic minister and regularly attended 11am Mass.
Always smiling and optimistic, Phil’s strong faith, love for God, family, country and his generosity shall always be remembered.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Luciano & Romualda Escuadra, wife Julie Mital Escuadra, son Joey Escuadra and his 11 siblings in Philippines.
