Richard D. Evans Sr. of Inverness for 40 years Services for Richard D. Evans Sr., 83, will begin with prayers at 9:45 a.m. Monday, at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home, 185 E. Northwest Highway, Palatine, and proceed to Holy Family Church, 2515 W. Palatine Road, Inverness, for Mass at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery. Visitation is from 4 to 9 p.m. today, at the funeral home. Born Nov. 1, 1923, in State Center, Iowa, he passed away peacefully Thursday, Sept. 20, 2007, at home, surrounded by his family. Mr. Evans was a World War II Army veteran. He retired from Western Electric. He was a graduate of Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa and Roosevelt University, where he earned a master's degree. He also attended Catholic University in Washington, D.C. and Stanford University in California. He was very active in amateur radio with call letters of K9ETB, and was a 4th degree member of the Holy Family Knights of Columbus Council #11981. Mr. Evans was very active at Holy Family Church, where he served as a Eucharistic minister and a lector, and attended morning Mass daily. He was an avid reader and enjoyed learning about his family history. His greatest joy was spending time with his family. He was the beloved husband for 54 years to Mary (nee Kunnert), whom he married on Feb. 14, 1953; loving father of Dick (Rita) Evans, Mary Kay (Rob) Zimmanck, John (Carol) Evans, Jean (Jeff) Joyce, Joan (Jim) Swanson and Tom (Meg) Evans; cherished grandfather of Allison and Troy Evans, Robbie and Donny Zimmanck, Chad, Dane and Chase Evans, Jason, Dan and Megan Joyce, Jimmy, Lauren and Kathleen Swanson, and Ainslie and Piper Evans; dear brother of the late John Evans; and fond uncle of many nieces and nephews.
