EDWIN R LAYMAN

 

ROCKFORD - Edwin R. Layman, 57, of Madison, Wis., passed away Tuesday, July 31, 2001, in Madison, after fighting a courageous battle for several years with amyloidosis. He was born Sept. 6, 1943, and was the precious son of Edwin C. and Stephanie (McKinley) Layman. Ed graduated from Milton (Wis.) College in 1970. While there he met Carol Salvi, and they married on Oct. 24, 1970. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Vietnam War. Ed was a devoted family man who treasured his wife, son and daughter. He was a man of high principles, who was very respected in his career, by his family and by his many friends. He always saw the good in others, and knew how to change the lemons in his life into lemonade. Ed enjoyed camping, an occasional trip to the casino and traveling the world, and was a Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus. He is survived by his wife, Carol, the love of his life. Ed also is survived by his children, Ed of Chicago and Stephanie of Madison his devoted mother, Stephanie of Brookfield, Wis. sisters, Ann (William) Jordan of Brentwood, Tenn., and Jane and brother, Stephen of Brookfield. Also surviving are the Salvi and O'Leary family members along with his many nieces, nephews and their children. Ed's father, who was always so proud of him, predeceased him in 1992.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Ed will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, in St. James Catholic Church, 428 N. Second St., Rockford, with the Rev. David E. Beauvais officiating. Burial in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may greet the family from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 3, at Fitzgerald & Associates Funeral Home, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Road, and from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Saturday in the church. Memorials in Ed's memory to the Multiple Myeloma Foundation, charity of choice or Masses will be appreciated. The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to Dr. Ann Traynor of Northwestern Memorial Hospital and the doctors, nurses and staff of the University of Wisconsin Hospital for their loving, professional care and support. 8-2-2
