PAUL E. MACEWICZ June 18, 1948 - March 8, 2012
Paul E. Macewicz, of Plover, died Thursday afternoon, March 8, 2012, at Ministry-St. Clare’s Hospital in Weston. Age 63, Paul was born June 18, 1948, in Chicago, IL. He was the son of Iris (Davis) Macewicz and the late Erwin Macewicz. He attended schools in Chicago, graduating from St. Francis High School in Wheaton, IL, in 1967. His marriage to Nancy Roberts took place on August 23, 1975 in Adams, WI. The couple moved to Plover in 1987. His wife, Nancy, survives.
Paul had a long, rewarding railroad career which began in 1969. He was a conductor/brakeman for the Chicago Northwestern Railway in Chicago. His employment with the CNW moved him and his family from Illinois to South Dakota, Iowa and Wisconsin. Paul left the CNW in 1987 when an exciting and challenging railroad opportunity was offered to him. He was one of a determined visionary team that came to Stevens Point to start up the Wisconsin Central Regional Railroad. During his employment with the WC, he was honored to be an Operation Lifesaver presenter, a WC representative on the Melvin H. Laird Express, the George H. Bush Presidential train, and to have the rewarding opportunity to play Santa Claus on the WC’s Santa Claus Express train.
Paul left the WC in 2000 and continued working within the railroad industry; he loved becoming an independent consultant. He was associated with Railway Worker Training out of Jacksonville, FL, and had traveled the country to train fellow railroaders in remote control train movement and other industry computer programs.
Paul enjoyed the outdoors and hunting, reading and computers. He loved most spending time with his family. He was a member of the Stevens Point Elks Lodge and the Knights of Columbus St. Bronislava Council #13880.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial in Paul’s name will be established at a later date.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy of Plover; his son, Christopher (Jackie) Macewicz of Stevens Point; and his daughter, Amy (Tom) Pennings of Plover; grandchildren, Nicholas, Julia and Kayla and baby Pennings who is scheduled to arrive in May; and his favorite black lab, Aimee Dog. He is further survived by his mother, Iris Ward of Palatine, IL; and his brother, Alan (Diane) Macewicz of Arlington Heights, IL. His mother-and step-father- in-law, Frances and Marshall Coon of Friendship, WI; two sisters-and-brothers-in-law, Kathy (Jerry) Dye of Adams, WI, and Brenda (Robert) Quinnell of Dellwood, WI; and a brother-and-sister-in-law, Butch (Lori) Roberts of Coloma, WI; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Paul was preceded in death by his father, Erwin; and his father- in-law, Sonny Roberts.
Funeral Mass will be 10:30 AM Tuesday, March 13, 2012, at St. Bronislava Catholic Church in Plover. Rev. James Trempe officiating. Burial will be in the St. Bronislava Parish Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 PM Monday at the Pisarski Community Funeral Home in Plover, and from 9:30 AM Tuesday at St. Bronislava Church until the time for mass. The Stevens Point Elks Lodge will have a funeral ritual at 6:30 PM followed by a combined Knights of Columbus and Parish rosary at 7:00 PM.
