ROBERT JOHN JOHNSTON SR

 

Robert "Bob" John Johnston, Sr., 94, of Daniel Island, South Carolina, husband for 71 years of the late Elizabeth "Betty" Salm Johnston, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, June 30, 2015. His Rite of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, July 8, 2015 in St. Benedict Catholic Church, 950 Darrell Creek Trail. Inurnment will follow in St. Benedict Catholic Church Columbarium. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, INC. MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL. Bob was born July 21, 1920 in Atlantic Highlands, New Jersey, son of the late Francis Johnston and Helen McGinn Johnston of Richmond Hill, NY. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army 9th Air Force, and saw service in France and Germany during World War II. Bob and his wife Betty were longtime residents of Wolf Hollow in Syracuse, NY and had also lived in Queens, NY, Cortland, NY, Binghamton, NY and Bradenton, FL, before coming to Daniel Island, SC. Bob worked for the Exxon Corporation for more than 40 years, was a past member of the Knights of Columbus, and a member of the Bellevue Country Club in Syracuse and a communicant at St. Ann's Church. More recently, Bob attended St. Clare of Assisi Parish on Daniel Island. He is survived by his two sons, Robert J. Johnston, Jr. and his wife Patricia Norcross Johnston of Daniel Island, SC, and Jeffrey F. Johnston of Alfred Station, NY; his grandchildren, Brian Johnston and his wife Wendy, Mary Elizabeth Johnston Collier and her husband Andrew, Rachel Johnston Pires and her husband A.J., Robert J. Johnston III and his wife Jennifer; and his eight great-grandchildren; Andrew and Alexander, Charles and Brady, Jack and Isla, Buchan and Meredith. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Clare of Assisi Parish, 885 Island Park Drive, Suite A, Charleston, SC 29492.
