Frank W. Sanders, Jr., of Goose Creek, died January 21, 2010, peacefully on James Island.
Born October 9, 1920 in Inwood Park Nasssau, NY, he was one of nine children of Frank Woodruff Sanders and Elizabeth Catherine Boinay Sanders.
He served in the US Army 82nd Airborne as a Captain during WWII; he received the silver star, three bronze medals and a Purple Heart with clusters. He continued his military service in the State Guard and retired as a Lt. Colonel.
Mr. Sanders owned and operated Southeast Mechanical Company, Inc., a mechanical contracting firm.
His wife of 62 years, Peggy, preceded in him in death in 2008 and he is survived by his daughters: Maria Veronica Seymour and husband, Kenneth Eugene Seymour of Chillicothe, OH, Elizabeth Catherine Sanders of Goose Creek, SC and Peggy Ann Sanders Messervy and husband Thomas William Messervy of James Island; sons, Frank W. Sanders, III and wife Cynthia Messervy Sanders of Helotes, TX and Robert M. Sanders and wife Carol Cindy Hegedus Sanders of Templeton, CA; brother, Robert Sanders and wife Jenny of James Island; sisters: Claudette Humbert and husband, Bruce of James Island, June Barrineau and husband, Leroy of French Quarter Creek, SC and Jeannette Kennedy and husband, Marvin Smith of Bonneau, SC; eleven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, John Sanders and wife Theresa and Bill and wife Dolliree Sanders; and two sisters, Elizabeth Lyon and husband Jack and Mary Ray.
Interment was in Holy Cross Cemetery with military honors. |
