John Thomas Hanson, Jr., 85, passed away on May 22, 2022 in Beaverdam surrounded by his family. A native and resident of New Orleans for over 50 years. After the death of his wife Patrica in 2014, John moved to Fredericksburg, VA to be closer to his only son, John Hanson III. He attended De LaSalle High School in New Orleans. After graduating high school, he moved to New Mexico to attend a college of the Christian Brothers where he began teaching. Next, he moved to Mississippi where he earned a Master’s degree in Physics and Math from Ole Miss University. He was also an accomplished athlete and was invited to try out as a kicker for the Chicago Bears, Houston Oilers and Dallas Cowboys. He is survived by his son, John Thomas Hanson; daughter-in-law Janine Hanson; and four granddaughters Madeline, Lauren, Catherine, and Josey Hanson. A Mass of Christian burial was held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church in Fredericksburg. Interment took place at St. Ann Catholic Church Cemetery, 350 Euclid Ave, Bristol, VA 24201.
