Roy, Earl Kent
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Earl Kent Roy on September 7, 2022 in his 88th year. Earl is survived by his children Karen Biddie, (Tom Biddie) and Kent M. Roy (Joanne Brohman) along with grandchildren Cameron Roy (Caitlin Roy), Maxine Biddie, Taylor Roy (Nick Ott), Brendan Roy and Alexandra Biddie. Earl also just became a great-grandparent and was thrilled to learn of the birth of Collins Roy on May 31, 2022. Earl was born in Moncton, NB, before moving with his parents Alex and Aurora Roy to Hamilton, ON, where he began his career as a pipefitter and married his long-time sweetheart Iren (Orr) and raised his family, first in Mt. Hope, then on West Mountain of Hamilton. Earl went on to have a distinguished career with MCC Powers, Landis + Gyr and ultimately Siemans Building Technologies before retiring in 2000.
Earl’s passions other than his family, were boating and sports, with his favourite sports teams being the Boston Bruins, Toronto Blue Jays, and Buffalo Bills, along with the Caledonia Thunder and Haldimand River Cats hockey teams where he and Irene would come to watch Cameron, Taylor and Brendan dominate the opposition and win many titles. Earl also loved to travel to the United States, to visit his granddaughters Maxine and Alexandra in New Jersey, Illinois and South Carolina but his truly favourite location was spending time in Kennebunkport, Me.
Later in life, Earl spent a great deal of time with his Church and the Knights of Columbus, donating, volunteering and working to help those less fortunate.
The family will be holding a private ceremony on Saturday, September 10, 2022, with Mass at Holy Rosary Catholic Church at 10:00 am. Earl will then be laid to rest at Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery.
Earl will be greatly missed by his entire family. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Charity of Your Choice in Earl’s name would be welcomed by the family.
