John Beckford Hill of Decatur, AL passed away the morning of April 24, 2022 after a prolonged illness. John was on hospice and received great care from Encore Hospice of Decatur.
John was born May 5, 1945 in Boston, MA to Ruth (Beckford) and John Henry Hill. Growing up in the foster care system on a farm taught John the value of hard work which he carried with him his whole life.
He earned scholarships to Thayer Academy and Northeastern University where he began his studies. John deferred finishing his education to join the Airforce, during Vietnam. He ultimately acquired his Master Electrician license.
John’s initiative and determination led him to an eclectic mix of job experiences including fireman and engineer for the Railroad, a taxicab owner, real estate agent, and assistant basketball coach. In the 70s, John even moved to Maine to build a cabin from the ground up.
John is survived by his wife Rebecca Ann (Bonczar) Hill, his three daughters (Stacey, Jeanette, and Danielle), three stepchildren (Forrest, Tanner (wife Rose), and Tyler), and several grandchildren.
John was a communicant at Most Merciful Jesus Catholic Church in Madison, AL. |
