Paul Hernandez, Jr., 81, of Nevada, Tx, passed away at home on lune 16. 2022, after a battle with leukemia.
Paul was born on October 24, 1940 to Paul and Inn Hernandez Sr. in Dallas Tx. He attended St. Ann's Catholic School and graduated from Jesuit High School. He went on to study at St. John's Seminary in Little Rock, AR and was drafted to serve in the United States Army.
Paul was an Army Veteran, where he served for 2 years active duty and 2 years in the Army Reserves. His rank when honorably discharged from active duty was F-5 Sergeant. He earned Good Conduct and Marksman medals while serving.
Paul and Betty Sue Whitten married in 1967 in Dallas, TX, and were blessed with 5 children who survive him: Deborah Antich, husband Jim and children Elena and Alex; Paul Hernandez III, wife Kristen and children Paul IV and Kaitlyn; Anna Robinson, husband Graig and son Russell; Stephanie Welsh, husband Adam and son Jameson; Mark Hernandez, wife Nasarin Barmaki.
Paul joined the Dallas Police Department in December, 1971, and retired as a Senior Corporal in 2003, serving a total of 31 years. Most of that time was spent in Police Personnel as a Recruiter and Background Detective. He was dedicated to serving his community and earned many honor and commendations including multiple Certificates of Merit, Outstanding Job Performance, and Officer of the Month.
In 2003 he retired and traveled with his wife, worked in his garden and spent time with his kids and grandkids. Watching them play sports or dancing in a recital brought him great joy. He was very proud of all his kids and grandkids.
