DONALD J LETTER

 

A Mass of Christian Burial for Donald Letter, 77 of Carthage, Texas will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 9, 2014 at the St. William of Vercelli Catholic Church with Father Jessudos Thomas officiating. Family visitation will be 6:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. in the Hawthorn Chapel. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Mr. Letter died October 5, 2014 peacefully at his home in Carthage, Texas.
Mr. Donald Joseph Letter was born March 30, 1937 in St. Louis, Missouri. He was the middle son of three born to the marriage of Elmer and Marjorie Schleter Letter. He was raised in St. Louis graduating from St. Mary’s Catholic School and attended University of Texas at Arlington. Don served his country through his service in the U. A. Army. He married Loretta Ann Riley December 30, 1961 and they celebrated 41 years of marriage before she preceded him in death in 2002. Mr. Letter was an engineer and fuel tech for Texas Utilities where he retired after 39 years of service. Mr. Letter was a member of the St. William of Vercelli Catholic Church and was active in the Knights of Columbus as a charter member of the Counsel Assembly 2877 of Carthage, Past Grand Knight of Counsel 11026, Past Faithful Navigator of Assembly 2877 and District Deputy of District 103. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife and a brother, Robert A. Letter.
He is survived by his sons, David Letter of Carthage, Dennis Letter and wife Diana of Yukon, OK, daughters, Danette Letter of Carthage, Deidre Anne Bockmon and Herbert Wilburn both of Longview, brother, Thomas “Tiger” Letter of Lake Kiowa, grandchildren, Jessica Lawrence, Chace Letter, Lauren Whitaker, Rollen Robertson, Savannah Letter, Dylan Whitaker, Davi Letter, Riley Robertson, Shyenna Letter, Amanda Letter and Taylor Bockman, great grandchildren, Khoen and Kaleigh Baker, Zelda Letter and Kyndall Lawrence, numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Serving as pallbearers will be the Knight of Columbus.
