Natividad "Nat" Y. Chavez went to be with the Lord on February 20, 2021 at the age of 80. He was born in Luling, Texas and was 2nd to the youngest of 15 children. Nat lived in San Antonio and graduated from Tech High School in 1959. He joined the U.S. Army and spent time overseas. Afterwards, he worked in civil service, earned a college degree and retired from Kelly Air Force Base. He was an active member of St. Luke Catholic Church where he was an Usher for many years and served as a Eucharistic Minister. He was a life member of St. Luke Men's Club and served as Secretary and Chaplain.
In 1987, he became a charter member of St. Luke Knights of Columbus Council #10240 and served as Grand Knight. In 1989, he became a 4th Degree, Faithful Navigator and District Deputy with Assembly #1102 and he remained an active member with the Knights of Columbus for over 30 years. He joined the VFW Post #9186 and became a life member. Nat loved playing Bridge with his fellow retirees from Kelly Air Force Base and loved sports. During his years at Kelly Air Force Base, he participated in a softball league. Through the years, he loved watching the San Antonio Spurs, Texas baseball and football teams.
He was an active member of the Tech Class of '59 Reunion and Scholarship Committee and at times served as Chairman. He enjoyed being part of two breakfast clubs with his fellow high school alumni. He enjoyed music and some of his favorites were songs from the 50's, conjunto and mariachi. Nat loved family gatherings and socializing with his friends.
He truly was a man of service to God, family and country.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Natividad Sr. and Teresa Chavez. He is survived by his loving wife of over 58 years, Dalia A. Chavez, daughters; Carolyn and Belinda, brother, Paul Chavez (Bertha), sisters; Maria "Susie" Longoria, Teresa Lara and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be missed and will forever be in our hearts.
SERVICES
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at St. Luke Catholic Church from 6:00 - 7:00 PM with a Rosary to begin at 7:00 PM. Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 9:45 AM on Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at St. Luke Catholic Church with interment to follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.
