COATES John Henry Coates, Jr., a retired commercial and industrial construction engineer, died Sunday, February 5th in Pearland, Texas. He was 90. Mr. Coates was born and lived in New Orleans until 1991 when he and his wife, the late Bernice Marie Delaune Coates, moved to Texas. He was a parishioner of St. Helen Catholic Church in Pearland and Knight Grand Cross of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem. In New Orleans, he was a parishioner of St. James Major Catholic Church; Past Grand Knight of Gentilly Council Knights of Columbus; member of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus; Laca Club, and former Supreme Vizier of the Order of Alhambra (Darro Caravan). At St. James Major, he received the Holy Name Man of the Year award, served on the Executive Committee, and as a member of the Board of Trustees. He was an officer of the Dads Club at St. Mary's Dominican High School. Mr. Coates retired as a Field Representative for Cimini Meric Burns Counce architectural firm in New Orleans after working for Fruin-Colnon Corporation and serving in an executive capacity for Perrilliat-Rickey Construction Co., Keller Construction Corp., Jano Constructors, and as a former Director of the New Orleans Railroad Terminal Board. He was a member of the Louisiana Engineering Society. Survivors include a son, Patrick H. Coates, Sr.; four daughters, Kathleen C. Joseph and husband Russell, Margaret C. Burke and husband Donald, Mary Coates Coats and husband Tobin, and Colleen C. Milner; a brother, R. Emmett Coates; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Visitation on Saturday, February 18, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. at Lamana-Schoen Funeral Home, 1717 Veterans Blvd., Metairie. Burial St. Patrick Cemetery No. 3, City Park Avenue off Canal Boulevard. |
